I am a parent who's child goes to Whitehall and I have to say I am extremely disappointed with Whitehall's education. I am moving my child elsewhere immediatly.

As a 2007 graduate, I can say that I enjoyed my experience at WHS. But I strongly feel that the district did not prepare me for freshmen-level college classes. I actually learned more in my first semester at the local community college than I did at WHS. Yes, I agree with the other person who said that teachers give you a assignment than go back to there desk for the entire hour. I think WHS needs focus on making sure students are competent in areas such as grammar and sentence structure, because that was the area I was most weak. Otherwise, I think the district needs more diversity in it's administration and general staff, because some students need to see it.

Moving here from a very large city we were worried about the programs offered and the boys fitting in. The school has been wonderful along with the staff. I do wish that they had honors programs like our previous school (weighted classes). The kids were welcomed into the school as if they had grown up here.

I have 2 children that have graduated from Whitehall High School. Being transplants to Michigan, I was very grateful to the school staff and students at the high school level and Elementary level that made my children feel welcome. The football, basketball and baseball programs were fantastic and involved a lot of character building and 'team' spirit.

I have been very pleased, overall, with Whitehall Schools and the teachers. They help students with problems. I have only had problems with one teacher, and that was at the high school level.

I agree that more teachers should spend more time helping their kids instead of just telling them to do an assingment and then sitting at their computer all hour. I feel this would help the all around atmosphere of the school along with having more students involve in class work.

Whitehall schools are a great place to send your students. However we are experiencing transportation difficulties currently. High school building principal is very efficient, kind, kid oriented, fair, all around good guy. Lots of good policies.

I think the teachers need to take more time to teach instead of just throwing assignments on the boards and having the students just do them. One teacher I learned the most from is Mr. Harris cause he took time to teach his students.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Michigan used the Michigan Merit Examination (MME) to assess students in grade 11 in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. The MME is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MME test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
