I love everything about Garfield. The school has a security system installed which makes me feel safe knowing invited guest/ strangers cannot enter the school without permission. My children love their teachers and are learning a great deal from them.

What a difference this year. There is a new principal and several new teachers and the school has done a complete turnaround. I posted a review last year that wasn't so good and now I can't find enough good things to say!

My two children have had some wonderful teachers here. Mrs Reynolds was wonderful. Mrs. Hensley was too. There was a new Principal this year for awhile that did a great job because the old principal was sick. However, shes back and the school is in the pitts.

The Administration in this school is lacking. There was a new prinicipal for awhile who was fantastic however the old one is back (too bad). This school has the adtmosphere of a funeral parlor. The teachers try hard it seems for what its worth.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
