In my opinion, I feel that Washington is an average school. However, I feel that there is a lack towards safety surrounding the school in general. There are too many careless people that don't take into consideration that there is a school in the area and TO SLOW DOWN AND BE CAUTIOUS!!I feel that it is a huge responsiblity we put on our safeties during the before and after school craziness. I think that there should be some type of police officer encirling the school grounds during these times to reinforce the safety of our children. Also, the parking around the school is very in adequate for the enormous amount of traffic that surrounds the school. We need a specific drop-off ONLY and park to pick up designated area. PLEASE HELP the parents who fear that it will take something awful in order for this issue to become resolved!

I was very pleased with the academic programs of this school. The teachers and staff spend quality time with each student to ensure success. They have an excellent music department, with three to four musical performances each year for each grade. My child went to school there for five years and each teacher he had was very personable wanting to have one on one contact with me. They encourage parents to get involved in every way possible with their children and their teachers. We had to move out of stae otherwise my child would still be there.

With the amount of taxes we pay and not have a bus service, i think the children should have at least a cafeteria because they are crowded in their own rooms and have to share recreational space on the playground. They need a chance to socialize with other friends in other classes and be exposed to diverse situations. This will enhance social growth.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
