There is/was an African American Youth Leadership Academy. This group would have been an amazing opportunity for all students who fit he criteria. Instead of opening the group to all students who fit the criteria, the women who ran the group decided to shut it down. These women wanted only African American girls to be apart of the group to fill a void. What is fair about that? The group was also being funded wrongfully. Whats honest about that?
As the parent of an advanced student, I'm not impressed. There isn't a choice in schools anymore for this grade level, therefore I am pulling my child from the public school system. Unless your child doesn't mind cussing and bullying on a daily basis, I wouldn't recommend this school. School seems driven by fear (of losing job perhaps?) and (lack of) budget, education has taken a back seat. The teachers/staff seem like they are afraid to address bad behavior. I feel sorry for the good teachers that are there, because there are some really good ones. sad.
