There are many things I love about The Potter's House High School. It is the most diverse private school in town and it has a strong sense of hospitality for all. The teacher's bend over backward to motivate and encourage students resulting in a graduation rate in the upper 90% range. Many students and refugees who were falling through the cracks in larger schools have found a home and a route to college at The Potter's House. On the other hand, gifted and high achievers also flourish there. It prepares students for a global workplace with a rigorous education based on Jesus and affordable for all thanks to income based tuition.
Potter's House has a great diverse community and it is clear that the teacher student relationship is present. But the downside is how unorganized the high school is. I have struggled to get correct transcripts in before college deadlines after several months of requesting it and reminding the administration. Also online classes are an easy solution to meet Michigan standards. If classes are not available during a students open hour, that student is placed in an Education 2020 class. Over the four years i have been there i have had 5 classes. I was placed in one wrong E2020 class which resulted in starting a new one. E2020 is an easy way out for the school. It is obvious that there is tension between the administration and students. But the teachers that are hired there do beyond what is required of them. Starting a relationship with each and every student on the first day of school. Accommodating the students to their learning techniques. And are willing to do anything to help students learn. Overall, I would not recommend Potter's House High School to a student who is seeking higher education beyond high school. BUT i do recommend it to students seeking one on one teacher time.
