As a frequent visitor grandparent, I think this is an extremely child friendly school with the latest in facilities, security, technology and teaching methods. The principal is sharp, dedicated and is very passionate about providing a stellar school for the children. Her leadership is eviden. The "culture" is that leads to order, cleanliness and happiness in the air. Teachers are caring and our experience with every staff member has been positive. From the office to the lunchroom everyone cares about the kids and their comfort, safety, and success. The kids enjoy the gym, music room and library, all child size and well equipped. Every classroom has computers and there is a computer lab they attend as a class. My granddaughter didn't go to prekinder and yet her development in the Montesori program was amazingly fast and she caught up to those kids that had prekinder, and more. Her reading, writing and math abilities, and also critical thinking are progressing nicely. Kinder brought little homework, first grade has some home practice. Overall, it is a top notch school.
Great school, good teachers, they have advanced technology and lots of facilities for the kids.
This is a really good school. The teachers and staff are really concerned about the education and well being of the children. They also encourage parent involvement.
My son attends preschool at Perry and loves it. It's a very quality education and the fact that it is four half-days a week for free (including bus service!) is pretty amazing. The kids do a lot of great projects with writing letters and numbers, reading, art projects, and music class once a week. My son loves his teachers as well, though admittedly, one of the cons is that I sometimes feel like they are expecting an argument from parents when just trying to have a casual conversation or ask simple questions. I also find the office staff to be unhelpful and even rude, but I do my best to ignore it considering the overall positive.
My husband and I both attended Perry as children and had no qualms about sending our preschooler there. Mrs. Blevins and Ms. Long are the hands-down best preschool teachers I could have hoped for and have endless patience and creativity. My son learned how to write his name within a week of starting school! They practically have all the kids reading before the end of the year which is amazing considering they are all typically 4-years-old when they start class. Love Perry, and to echo another post, just wish it went beyond 2nd grade.
Ms. Blevins and Mrs. Long's preschool classroom is AMAZING! The teachers are very nice and they do home visits twice a year, parent-teacher conferences, and the parent is required to help in the classroom once a month. My daughter has completely thrived in this preschool program. Her and the rest of her classmates are more than ready for kindergarden. You should definitely take advantage of this program if you have a little one you would like to place in preschool. I am amazed at how the teachers keep the children engaged and excited about learning! It a very loving, gentle, peaceful, creative learning environment!
I love the teachers my son has had over the last two years. And more than that, he loves them. All of the Perry staff are wonderful. The academic and lessons are great and giving the kids a good foundation. Everyone is very involved and there for the children. Parents are always welcome to help at any time. There is the option of before/after school care right at the school.
Perry CDC is THE best creative, nurturing ,educational and rewarding place to learn and teach! Every teacher working here aims to enable every student to learn at his/her own level and at his/her own rate. Everyone in the building has a goal of building a better educational setting for ALL the children. From Cafeteria workers to Secretaries to Maintainence to Classroom Aides, each and every one strives to create a learning environment with positive role models that sustain and nurture creative abilities in all the children who enter there. Parents and grandparents alike are welcomed and encouraged to partake in their children's and grandchildren's education by getting involved in classroom activities and reinforcing learning at home. It is one exceptional school, and every child is made to feel exceptional there!
This school is awesome....better than the 8K school I sent his brother to. I really love the staff and its nice to have an environment where the teachers are passionate about the children.
This was the only choice for my son. My husband and I are both educators and Perry's curriculm is impressive as is their staff. My only complaint is this: there are not many teachers of color in the classroom. I feel that this is important and imperiative to the environment in which the children are in. My son excelled in the classroom and off, and it's all because of the teachers that he had. I highly recommend Ms. Bertch for Pre K and Ms. Gast for Kindergarten! Phenomenal!
My biggest complaint w/ Perry is how late the bus brings home my daughter and that they no longer have the Literacy Academy. I have had both my little ladies attend Perry my oldest went there for Kindergarten and 1st grade my youngest is now in kindergarten and was there for pre-school. The teachers are great, the principal is nice, and there is more parent involvement. My nephew will be attending Perry in the Fall as a preschooler and I know he will learn a great deal.
What a great school. I think sending my son for preschool at perry was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Ever since then my kid learned to love learning and hasn't stopped since. Rois Savvides
The teachers have the biggest impact on my child and have done a wonderful job teaching and interacting with her. As for the lunchroom, it is horrible! the children are not allowed to talk and have to put their heads down when done eating. Do the adults talk on their lunch breaks? I think so. I have spoke to other parents , principal, and the pab, nothing is being done. My child loves Perry. She always talks about her day and how great and fun it was. I am not happy and my child is not happy with how the lunchroom is disciplined.
I love Perry my oldest daughter attended Kindergarten there and is now enrolled in the Literacy Academy every day I see an improvement in her reading, writing, and how she deals with things she has trouble with. My youngest is also enrolled in Perrys preschool program. They both look forward to school everyday. The teachers are great, my only regret is that the school doesn't go up to 8th grade.
My oldest son attended Preschool at PCDC and we loved it. Our biggest problem was the bus, but the school and teachers have always been good to us. I found them all helpful and kind. My only complaint is the morning wall lineup, the more teachers out there the better, but the kids do ok as it is set up. He will be in K this year and is looking forward to it. He was hoping his P teachers were going to move with him he loved them so much. Next year 0809 my youngest will be going there. It's true that the neighborhood isn't the greatest, but as I was told, the school isn't messed with because it was their alma mater too. I'm a proud parent of PCDC!
My daughter is in kindergarten at Perry CDC. My husband and I (and my kindergartner) love this school! In response to some comments below, I think the principal is very nice. Also, my daughter loves the lunch ladies! I have been to lunch with her and she has told me that they are the ladies that help everyone.
My 2 children have attended this school since kindergarten and are in the literacy academy now in 2nd grade. The teachers and academics have been great. I am sad when the day comes when they will have to go to a new school. The teachers have the biggest impact on my kids and have done a wonderful job teaching and interacting with my them. When there needs to be discipline I get a call and we talk about it my kids are not just given up on and thought of as a bad kid they actually try to solve the problem and help. I believe the teachers I have come in contact with for the last 3 yrs. are truly dedicated.
My kids have had a positive experience at Perry. The teachers have been great! The one drawback is the new principal, she is not friendly and her follow through is horrible. Parents questions and concerns go unanswered.
I have had several issues since my child started there in September. The school is nice,as are some of the teachers. I don't agree with their discipline. They are rude to the children. I have heard teachers when they aren't aware that I am standing in the hall. I visited my child's class, and at lunch the children are hassled for having to use the bathroom. I am not sure when the lunch supervisors expect them to do this. Don't they use the bathroom on their lunch? There is a new principal this year, and all of the parents I have asked are not impressed with her. She is not friendly. I asked for help in a certain situation in my child's class, and she told me she 'didn't have an answer'. That was in October, I have yet to get an answer, and nothing has been done. I'm not impressed.
I couldn't have made a better choice than placing my son in perry cdc. It has opened so many doors to him, and the teachers are truly the most amazing of all. They keep you up to date with your childs progress, and support parent involvement to teh fullest degree. The school is well layed out and clean, and i feel secure in leaving my son in their hands every day. They offer each child a wide variety of hands on projects and you dont feel like just a number...the teachers know and understand each childs strengths and weaknesses. My son has grown up so much in his time spent at perry. I just wish I could find an elementary school with the same class sizes, and quality activites and teachers as perry has.
