My daughter will be graduating in June of 2012. Can you say AMEN!?The teachers act as mature as the kids. Favoritism is so blatant because so many of the teachers grew up in Ypsi and went to YHS themselves, they know a lot of the students' parents and let their kids get away with bullying, fighting... I am so happy to finally be breaking ties with the declining district that is YPS! I have a 6th grader at Adams Academy and I absolutely refuse to send him to Ypsilanti Middle School. One of the worst decisions the district ever made was to consolidate East and West Middle into one school. There has been so much conflict with the students. Drugs are becoming a problem as well as middle school pregnancy. Administration just seems so relaxed about the continuous failure of the system as long as they are receiving a check. In comes the great idea of consolidating Willow Run Community Schools with YPS-"Death of a School System". If Ann Arbor Public Schools is smart they would stop accepting kids out of district now or their demise could be next!
The school is a good choice if you decide to hang with the right crowd , but if you dont you may feel yourself heading down the wrong path. My daughter has been going to ypsilanti high for 2 years now and she went down the wrong path coming in but I feel as if shes doing better with her new friends. Tell your kids to choose friends that'll lead them into their goals of life not the oppsite.
My three sons all graduated from the Ypsi High. The entire school district may have problems, but nowhere near what you might think based on comments from outsiders. The music and theatre programs are outstanding. All of my sons are now successful adults. As the graduate of a Catholic high school, I believe that while there were fewer discipline problems at my school, I received an inferior education to that of my sons.
My cousin and I have been going to YHS since Fall of '08. The school has its ups and downs, but overall the school isn't as bad as people think. We often get labeled "Hood Rat Central" or"Gay YHS" but not all of us are gay, or "hoodrats". All of us have home-training. Some choose to use it, others fail to. Many teachers are GREAT teachers, and help us grow acaemically. Some teachers don't show their willingness to help us. Basically we're old enough to stop blaming our problems or academic downfalls and behavior on teachers because we know better and most of the time it's on us.
as a former student; the teacher are very good. the class sizes are just right. I went there my freshman year and fell in love with the school. they have many programs such as GEAR-UP and Upward Bound both through Eastern Michigan University. teachers are very helpful; id recommend this school to anyone in the surrounding area of Ypsilanti
surprising variety of educational opportunity in and out of classroom. dedicated, skilled teaching staff with plenty of heart. staff and administrators approachable and effective. very good school.
The teachers in the lower elementary and middle school setting have been been awesome! I have a child w/ special needs and have received help in all aspects of his education!! Compared to what I have heard from Ann Arbor parents, Ypsi has/does a better job!! Difficult getting parents involved to form a 'community' w/in the schools.
The teachers are excellent. The opportunities are there. If the student applies themselves the teachers of this school will equip them with the tools they need to be to thrive in this world. Awesome teachers.
I graduated with experience in music, performing arts, as well as other sciences. I had the opportunity to see nearly 5 different countries from my involvement in Chamber Singers as well as my ambitious endeavors in Spanish class. The teachers were very personable and had an interest in my education.
Ypsilanti High School has a great student body, if you choose to hang out with the right people. Also, a student can leard a lot if he/she applies him/herself. I have really enjoyed my two years at the school thus far, and, despite others' views, I love the school!
My daughter will graduate in June 2009 from YHS. This place is wonderful!! She has had numerous opportunities to grow and flourish, academically, as an athlete, and as a musician. Her teachers for the most part have been FABULOUS. The principal is a great man, respected by parents and students. I have enjoyed volunteering here!!
The principals is one of the best I have ever heard of. The teachers are very hardworking with a very diverse student body. Even many students who transfer from Ann Arbor Schools rate Ypsilanti high School as good, even better than their previous school.
I am a parent of two students that are attending Ypsilanti High School. I have two more students to go through this school. I am highly confident that my other two will do great in this school. Since they got their new principal there has not been as many fights and distractions. My son flourished from an all C student to a b- and b student. All of his teachers said that they have seen a difference in his attitude. I am so happy that we have chosen Ypsilanti High School as our school of choice. I recommend this school to any one in the area. It is more disciplined to the point that I am not scared to send my child to school.
i am a former student of Ypsilanti High, i feel as though some teachers are doing there job but very very few. the rest of the teachers do not teach, they have horrible methods and are unfair in their grading methods. teachers grade people differently on the same work. If an A student and a D student get the same answers on homework the D student will get a D and the A student an A. teachers are closed minded about the material that the students are being force fed. I moved out of state and now attend another High School where I find my self un prepared in the area of math.
I am a former student who went to Ypsilanti High during the years of 2000 - 2004 and I would never send my future childern there ever. In my experience there, I saw no really leadership or discipline. I saw the principle at the time do nothing about thefts or any kind of misbehavior. In fact most of the time he was nowhere to be found. I also found that there was very little to no parent involvement. The teachers there also seemed to me not to care or had no idea how to manage there own classes.
Ypsilanti High School is what you make of it. I attended from 1991-95 and had a positive experience. However, I was involved in the band program, drama program and did other extra curricular activities as well. Its easy to get in trouble if you hang out with the wrong crowd, however, if you do the right thing and make the right friends, you should do just fine. I went on to get a bachelor's degree and am a happy and well-adjusted adult.
