Our experience with Trek was not extremely positive. The kids enjoyed some of the trips but thesupport for dealing with negative behaviors towards students was not a strong point. My kids grade point improved which is good but they had a difficult time with how some times the people at the school acted like superior to others, which was hard for the kids to deal with. I was with the school a whole year and didn't know a lot of what was happening or how things worked there.

TrekNorth is one amazing school! TrekNorth offers programs that aren't offered anywhere else. With the school you can travel anywhere from Chicago to Georgia helping communities and experiencing nature. Although the Service Learning Program and the Outdoor Adventure Program are major parts of what Trek stands for, the main focus of the school is on preparing the students for college. The teachers are dedicated to helping us students do our best - even if that means taking time out of their schedule before or after school to help us. TrekNorth has a large number of Advanced Placement classes, classes where students can get college credit. Being a small school, we don't have as many sports and after school events as other schools do, but I think the Service Learning Trips and the Outdoor Adventure Program more than make up for it.

I have been a student at TrekNorth for two years, and I have loved every moment of it. The teachers are friendly and make an honest effort to get to know you. The staff learns how to help you and they push you to become your very best. The Outdoor Adventure Program and the Service Learning Program is spectacular. How many high schools can say that you can be canoeing on the Boundry Waters or hiking the Superior Hiking Trail as a part of the curriculum? Not many. The Service Learning Program helps students like me to improve our local community and learn more about ourselfs. The goal of TrekNorth is to prepare its students for college, and therefore it offers Advanced Placement classes so students can gain college credit for free.

Trek North has improved over the last few years. The school used to lack discipline and rules, causing the students to run wild. Teachers have became better leaders. However I think that the school has lost some of it's appeal. It is becoming more like a public school than a charter school. The closeness between students and staff created a positive atmosphere. While now enforcing more rules, the staff is having a harder time bonding with the students. They need to create an environment where students are respectful to the rules, while maintaining a good relationship between students and staff. The teachers are great at their jobs. Especially Dan and Chad. They're awesome.
