As a non catholic family, we have fallen in love w Nativity. Everybody knows every kid. Discipline is evident, but loving. The kids seem genuinely happy, but respectful, wherever they are, lunch, library, recess.... We just finished our first yr, so cannot comment on academics per se, other than to say high schools in the area are happy to recieve Nativity students. they have a reputation of being very prepared for HS. Christian faith is very evident throughout the school. Plenty of opportunities to volunteer, to be active in the school. bottom line, we are very happy with Nativity. Its a very easy school to "fit in" as a parent, the kids seem .... like kids! Happy, confident, supported kids. highly recommend.
The academics are good. The teachers are so very nice. The school building is clean and well-kept. The environment is safe, and class sizes small. The importance and instruction of a truly Catholic Faith are lacking. Of course, the kids get more Religious instruction than they would at a Public school, where there would be zilch. As Catholic parents trying to impart the beauty and grace of the Catholic Faith in all facets of their lives we are concerned about this. They do have Mass once per week as a school. They do get Religion twice per week, but mostly, our children come home from school with "having had no time" to actually do the activity lessons in the classroom, and the Religion is NOT homework to bring back! For our family, we consider this school to be a better environment for our children than the Public schools, but only haltingly recommend--Respect for Life, and a TRUE understanding of our Catholic faith must come from the family--it will NOT end up coming from this school. If you are a "Cafeteria Catholic"--then this is your school.
I am so proud to be a part of the Nativity community. The staff do wonderful things for my children and our family overall. We try to provide a solid foundation based on positive character and morals. Nativity helps fosters and supports what we are tryng to do as parents. I feel listened to when I have concerns from the teachers and principal. At Nativity my children have the opportunities to provide service within not only our local community but our global community. I feel that the environment is safe and nuturing yet pushes my children to challenge one's self to move beyond their comfort level. Their is a strong sense of community at Nativity of Mary.
Teachers and principal very unprofessianal in dealing with parents on safety issues. They are mostly oriented in raising money than partecipating in self esteem and education development of children. I do not reccommend this school!
We can not strongly, loudly or more deeply recommend Nativity of Mary to parents & grandparents who recognize education as one of the only gifts we can ever give to our kids that truly will be with them for rest of their lives. Nativity has not only given our kids an exceptional learning environment, it incorporates and teaches each of the kids the values that will give them the ability to succeed in life, to give to the communities they live in, to be the best possible person God has intended them to be. We have been extremely delighted with the overall learning experience at Nativity. Both of our children 7th & 3rd have had learning issues that have been very well met & accomodated by the staff. To date, the Teachers, Pastor & Staff have been an awesome group to work with! We are blessed to be apart of this community!
My son and daughter have thrived at Nativity. They are both very different individuals, and the teachers have brought out the best in them. We were in public schools in Bloomington for a while and were disappointed. The principal at Nativity works very hard to understand and respond to the issues of the parents, teachers and students. The teachers are able to focus on each student because of the small class size. Last year, the facilities were updated and are beautiful (and air conditioned!). I really feel the religious education has helped ground both of my children and augments the moral principles we try to teach at home. I can't say enough good things about Nativity - I feel very fortunate my children are able to attend school there.
I cannot say enough great things about Nativity. My daughter is in her first year there and she has a mild form of dyslexia and her teacher picked up on it and she has received so much help. I have also been given so much information to help her. Nativity has a great feeling of community also, every child feels accpeted. My daughter has really come into her own there. She will be there until she graduates.
My son had some learning disabilities and received little or no help. The school is not equiped with any type of remedial teachers. The teaching is geared to the child who is a self starter and learns easily. The teaching is directed to the brightest children in the class and strugglers are left on their own. Also, with the school being small cliques are a fact of life. It can be difficult for the children not part of the clique. After putting two children through the school I would think twice about doing it. The education was just OK and I felt not really worth the money. Both of my kids have blossomed academically and socially since attending public HS.
I have a child who is currently attending Nativity and I feel with her shyness that she would get left behind but her teachers have made sure that everyone is recognized. Also, with the small class sizes everyone gets lots of individual attention. The curriculums are carefully selected by the teachers and principle. Nativity is an Acredited school. They worked hard on the acredidation last year and are continuing with the hard work to keep up with the award. I believe the teachers at Nativity are there for the students and recognize when a student needs help or special attention. There are so many parents who volunteer their time to help out at school whether it be in the lunch room, library or being room parents. It's great fun to see your child in school and how they interact with the other kids. It's absolutely great and I personally love it.
