We absolutely love CHE! It's unfortunate that the information provided by the "Great Schools" website is so outdated, including the reviews! Our current principal is actually Jill Kelly and she has held this position for several years. She is one of the most hands on, involved principals I have ever seen, and you can tell she truly cares about the well being of her students and staff. My oldest will be starting 4th grade this fall, and we also have one child going into 2nd grade, and another that will start K there in a few years. We have been happy with every teacher our kids have had at CHE. We also have had much experience in dealing with the special education staff for IEP/504 plans and they have been fantastic not only in working with our kids, but also in communicating with us as parents. We truly feel blessed that our neighborhood is zoned for CHE, as it has been a wonderful fit for our family!
My son has attended this school since 2009 and my daughter started here in 2011. There has not been a turnover issue while we have been here. There was district wide teacher movement when Crystal Lake Elem closed and CHE had several changes at that time because layoffs went by seniority district wide not just from that school. We have always been pleased with the teachers. They are very caring and work hard to make sure their students succeed! We are also very happy with the new principal this year--a change was long overdue.
The academic curriculum in this school is lackadaisical at best and there appears to be little to no interest among the senior administrators (principle and school board) to raise the academic standards to other elementary schools in the immediate area. (Ie. Oak Hills Elementary) Our child is consistently not challanged enough academically and after multiple meetings with teachers and administrators we have concluded that this school 'is just getting by' to meet state funding requirements and they don't have the best interests of the students truely in mind. There also seems to be a high turnover of teachers, and the reputation of the principal (among parents and students) is one of being disengaged and ineffective. A change in administration is severely needed. We have moved our child to another school.
