Students treated poorly by other classmates are told to "ignore" the bad behavior, and the offending classmate is never dealt with. Derogatory comments like "we're not like those Anishinabe kids" are often heard FROM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS. Kids spit on each other in the halls. Kids pull other kids' hair in class. Kids get punched while making their way off school busses. And NOTHING is done to eradicate the errant behavior!!
I am sure there are a handful of kids who, in spite of Sullivan's atmosphere, are respectful and compassionate. But none of them have been in any of my son's classes. He is quiet and respectful... and the other 29 or so kids are always trying to "get a rise" out of him because of that. What a bunch of hooligans!!!
There is often little communication between parents and teachers regarding what homework is due when. I often don't know when my son is missing assignments until well after they were due, because NO ONE works with his ADD/ADHD-related memory and attention issues to make sure the homework GETS HOME TO BE WORKED ON.
