Fantastic school, supportive teachers and active parent community. Don't let the Great Schools rating worry you - this school is amazing and the IB curriculum is a huge win. My kids are learning to be critical thinkers - not just memorizing for the tests. Super open-minded environment.

Great school with a majority of the teachers having pride in their craft, multicultural student body, and parents that are interested in their children and school. The IB curriculum is a plus which not only makes parents and kids stay on their toes, but teachers too!

It is a multi-cultural school with multi-lingual kids and staff that does a great job of keeping the kids learning about our world.

Whittier is one of the only truely diverse schools in the Minneapolis School district with a primary IB program that offers student a world view to teach them to learn and become world citizens.

We are very happy having our first-grader at Whittier (she also had an excellent kindergarden teacher). The inquiry-based IB curriculum is a real asset, and allows students to see the world differently. The teachers are great, and the student body is very diverse, a real plus for us. They also have Spanish-speaking interns and a strong art and music connection to local organizations such as the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Children's Theater, and MacPhail Center for the Arts. The building is big, open, and sunny too.

My son is in kindergarten at Whittier, and we just love it. The sense of community that the school fosters is appreciated by myself and all the families, and the IB approach is rigorous and sensitive at the same time. I love the diversity of the school as well. I'm really excited about having my children go to Whittier for many years!

I have one going into 3rd grade ane one going into Kindergarten. I love that there is an African American female principal and also teachers of color - I think it is great for students to see people of color in positive leadership roles. I love the diversity, the free after school programs and the emphasis on teaching the WHOLE child!

I have a 3rd and 1st grader at this school. I really enjoy the school alot because of there programs. My 3rd grader loves playing the piano and the idea of this school having this piano program available to them at a young age is great because it strengthen there abilities in learning and a person.
