My children love going to Bright Water. They never complain about getting up in the morning to go to school and they always come home wanting to share a story about the fun they have with their friends at recess or presentations (lessons) that have stirred their imagination and inspired interesting research projects. We love the teachers and staff because they care and do so much for all the kids.
This school struggles with diversity. There are no longer any teacher of color teaching 1st thru 6th grade at this school. All previous staff and teachers of color have been replaced with an all white staff. Bright water is an urban school and is the only one of its kind in North Minneapolis, but dose not no longer have at least one African-American Teacher. Bright Water has become just another charter school in North Minneapolis with no true identity to what they say they believe in, just located on the North Side.
We just love Bright water for our two children. The school is committed to reducing the achievement gap in North Minneapolis. The staff is caring and compassionate. Both of my children are reading well above grade level. Challenges - the school still is working on how to deliver an ideal montessori environment in an urban community. Sometimes there are students who come to the school without montessori training and this can be disruptive to an education system that builds skills beginning in preschool. The school is young and is committed to figuring this out. As long as the school leadership and the board are committed to improvement, my children will remain at Bright Water.
This is a wonderful school. My children love going to school each day. I love the multi-age classrooms that allow older students to be leaders and reinforce their learning by teaching younger students. And allow younger students to anticipate future learning and move ahead at their own individual pace. I also love that my children's natural curiosity is fostered and they are encouraged to pursue research and art projects that are guided not only by the teachers' interests or state standards but by their own inquisitive natures. So happy here.
Our daughter is getting an incredible education here! We are so pleased to be part of this school.
