Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I so wish there was another choice...this school has been a disappointment for the 2 years my kids have been attending. Why don't they make a change to the leadership?

In my opinion, this school does not welcome or want special education students. Their special ed is severely lacking; it is a shame that this district disregards these students.

We've been very pleased with our experiences within the district. We have been part of the district for nearly 6 years and have found school administrators to be welcoming and helpful. We have been very happy with the teachers at various levels. There are times when one of our kids didn't "mesh" as well with a teacher over the years, but that seems a metaphor for life. You can't expect to get along with everyone all the time. I would say that we are very involved in our kids activities and with their education. There will always be a desire for a wider array of offerings outside of traditional classes, i.e. art, theater, etc. but that is building and should be expected with growing districts.

Very disappointed, terrible school, terrible principal, uncaring staff... St. Michael should be able to do better for our children.

This is a Great school. Teachers offer a fun approach to learning. They offer a great program for gifted students as well as children with special needs. My son loves it here. The district as a whole does a great job. I have two boys on opposite ends of the learning spectrum and the school offers a great learning opportunity for both.

From a students point of view, this is the worst school i've ever atteneded. If you plan on being indevidual, think otherwise because you will have NOBODY. this school is soo grouped if you're diffenent at all, you won't have friends. The principles are awful, they do nothing and the people that work in the office are super rude. the teachers are all really cool, but they can't acutally teach. I wouldn't send your kid here, its the worst thing i've ever actually had to go threw.

It has been very frustrating at this school. You can never really tell how your child is doing. The parent portal doesn't help. Conferences don't have enough detail. If your kid is average or slightly above average they don't really show much effort. Questions to teachers are usually just dismissed. There are a few good teachers, but not many. I dont' get their homework policy. Kids should have more than one day to do an assignment. Other students are bullying and not much is done about it. I think that's because the bullying extends to the staff level too. I just don't get it. I would not recommend this school.

If you dig deep and become involved you will find a school that has been a drift for years with many teachers, advisers, and management who should not be even in a school. There are two middle schools. One has a principal who is genuinely trying the other principal shouldn't even be teaching let alone managing. Generally speaking the schools are poorly managed. No real team teaching coordination. Poor language test scores and a really uncoordinated math department. No rigor here, even in the so-called advanced classes. All homework is due immediately no matter what other obligations a student might have. There is very limited arts education and an overwhelming support of sports at no matter the cost. Inconsistent discipline and a first hour of wasted time where students are suppose to be taught character traits, but they all just laugh about how stupid it is. I can't recommend this school.

We ignored a negative review on this sight about the STMA School District thinking it was just one parents perspective. However, after the past 1 1/2 years at STMA, my advice to any parent looking at this district is to go somewhere else! The bullying in this district is out of control and is not effectively dealt with by administration or the majority of teachers in a proactive or reactive manner. Yes, they have 'anti-bullying workshops' for students and staff; and thats as far as it goes. Anti-bullying is not truly taught or reinforced any further than the workshop. As if the learning environment itself is not negative enough, teachers/admistration are not open to real parent participation in their childs academic success. If your child has a different learning style (not related to special needs), this district is not willing to do what is necessary to ensure their success.

I completely agree with the first post submitted on March 7, 2005. After 1 very difficult years at STMA for us, and our children, we also chose to remove our children from this district and they are now thriving: both academically and emotionally at the new school.

I strongly encourage anyone considering this school district to talk to parents who currently have children enrolled there. You will get a much more accurate picture of the current issues and problems the schools are experiencing from parents or students. In my opinion, persons at the school administrative levels are making a considerable amount of poor decisions regarding discipline, teacher hiring, finances, and education in general. Our children have attended the schools in this district for a couple years. We are deeply disappointed with the follow through on the bullying and education policies and have chosen to remove our children from the school, as are many parents. The administration is either unwilling or unable to effectively address the many long-standing issues brought forth by parents and students and the learning environment is suffering. Please exercise extreme caution when considering this school as a possible choice for your child/ren.

Great school. Will soon be divided due to population explosion. The second one should be even better.

St. Michael Albertville Middle School is an excellent school. I feel that the staff does a marvelous job educating its students. The parents are kept informed of their students progress through a student information portal. The school also has many programs for the kids to participate. I can say with both my experience as a public school teacher in another state and as a parent this school is a cut above most schools I have seen.

This school is completely out of touch with reality and todays kids. The princapal and asst. do not have any idea how to relate to the middle school age child. Therefore the staff that they have hired is on the same level. I have removed my child from this school and he is now thriving in the new school where he was an F student in the middle school. My advise is to run not walk away from this school. I rate this school an F.
