Profile Completeness

BASIC

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

My son graduated from Jennings in 2011. I was surprised to see some of the reviews suggesting lack of parental involvement, although I see that those reviews were posted long before my son attended. His advisor changed his life quite literally. I often wonder how the remainder of my sons high school career would have played out if we never made the switch. Given the small, intimate nature of the school, he was given personal one on one attention regularly, was provided opportunities that weren't available to most high school students, and most importantly was treated like an individual, not a number. Because of Jennings, my son was able to discover for the first time who he was, who he wanted to be, his interests and desires. Jennings of course is not without it's quirks. Like any school, it may not be a good fit for some. The philosophy is progressive and the structure is loose. For my son, that was what he needed. He was eager to go to school every morning. My son became part of a community he was proud of. I still, three years later keep in touch with his advisor, and am sure to remind her of how much she touched our lives.

Jennings has really turned around in the last couple of years with terrific staff. Our students do amazing feats of learning and use the world as the classroom. One student has a one-year scholarship in Japan. We have traveled around the state, nation and world. We emphasize experiential learning, a strong advisory program, individualized learning plans, project-based learning and frequent presentations.

I graduated from Jennings last June. I loved the school. The education you receive there is like no other. You have to chose if you want to learn or not, the teachers are not going to waste their time on students who chose not to pay attention. The teachers there are wonderful and will go to any lengths for their students.

If your child enjoys teaching themselves then this is probably the school for you. There is no actually teaching going on. The students create chaos every day and there is no structure in this school. Not to mention the teachers seem to be more concerned with their paychecks then they do about caring for the students of this school. Another things, they don't want parent involvement. Most parents can call up there and leave messages for days in a row without hearing a word back, you have to yell to get their attention. The teachers are not qualified to teach your child, their is no leadership, no extracurricular activities.

The quality of their academic programs has gone down since they first opened a few years ago. The main problem is that they cant seem to hold on to a good staff. Every year there are new teachers, and every year they have a new way of trying to teach. Another problem is that they have no sports for the kids. The closest they get to gym is the YMCA (which they stoped when i graduated in 2002). In my opinion the only teacher there that teaches is Ellie Elmquist. So if your a parent and you are considering Jennings, make sure its your last resort. There is no level of parent involvement.
