I have had a very positive experience at Madison. They have an excellent Chinese Immersion Program which gives children an advantage in life. The teachers and staff are amazing and they really care about the kids they work with. The school works well with children that need a challenge or are advanced learners. There is a good amount of diversity within the student body which helps teach the children about respecting others and helps them gain a better understanding and appreciation for those that are different from themselves.
I agree that communication is poor between the school staff and parents. Many assumptions are made that you 'should already know'. Much emphasis is placed on special education students and not much is offered for accelerated learning programs for students at the other end of the spectrum. The bar for learning really could be raised higher if you look at the testing proficiency scores and the level of work for the grades. Overall our child has had a good experience but needs more to challenge his educational needs.
We are new to the district this year and so far have liked the class sizes and extra staff present in the classroom. There needs to better communication to parents on expectations in regards to homework and possible Title 1 placements. Many assumptions made that parents will know school rules, activities available, fundraisng opportunities and general 'housekeping' (paying for lunch, bus stop locations, entrance not well marked...). School report on this web site is incorrect: No before school care is offered at this location. Grade levels are K-6 since closure of other schools in district. Curriculum is excellent with a phonics base and good math program that is applicable to the every day world.
