My son attended preschool at Ames for the 2009-2010 school year. My son is very intelligent, however; he's twice as shy. Mrs. Black gradually helped him work up his confidence without forcing him, she was very supportive and patient. Her preschool class consisted of kids with various skills and abilities, and she masterfully ensured that every child was challenged regardless of their level. She was always grateful having parents in the classroom whether they stay for the whole day, or just drop in for a little bit. Parents were always kept up to date with current class events and she was approachable if there ever were questions. She truly is an excellent teacher, worthy of being commended. We aren't so fortunate now that we are in San Diego. We miss her and the school environment at Ames. We just can't seem to get that here.

This is a small community school with small classes. The kids learn so much.. Each person that works at this school cares greatly for the students. And the Dr. Henderson is an AMAZING PRINCIPAL!

I have three children that attended Ames this past year (2005-2006). All three were on a different level of achievement - struggling reader, just average, and gifted and talented, and I didn't think any school was capable of leveling the playing field between them Ames changed all of that! The entire school works together as one big family. Students are encouraged to help each other and the community, and parents are welcome to sit in on classes at any time. The entire staff contributes to the growth and development of the students. Cultural, political, and environmental awareness is implemented at all levels, and it's getting better every year! At the end of the school year, I had two gifted and talented students, and my former struggling reader is on his way to an excellent junior high school. Next year, Ames will challenge its students more than before! Ames Aims High!
