My son attended Battle Creek Environmental Magnet School since Kindergarten. From my experience with this school in the past we had high expectations and were very excited for him to attend. Little did we know... The school did NOT live up to those expectations. The school was a magnet mostly in name only (although some devoted teachers tried very hard to incorporate the environment and nature into the curriculum--often at the risk of getting in trouble). Each year got a little worse until we decided to pull him out--during his 5th grade year. (2010-2011) The leadership is terrible, the environment is stressful for the teachers (most of whom are excellent) and scary for many of the kids as discipline is not supported or reinforced by the office/principal, the environmental focus isn't anything more than any other school and scores are declining. To top if off--parent involvement seems to be frowned on by school leadership. The teachers here are okay to excellent. I gave the principal one star only because I couldn't give less. Although parents try very hard and do participate, they school does not encourage it--in fact it restricts it.

This school has excellent teachers and staff and many devoted parents--the potential for this to be a great school is there. But it currently has very poor leadership. Although slated as a Environmental Magnet I have been disappointed.

This is an excellent school and also my daughters first year here. She is in kindergarten and already, she has learned so much and is reading level one and level B books. I'm so proud of her! All of the staff is very friendly and acknowledges everyone who enters the school.

My son has went here for 4 years and we find it a very comfortable school for us - they do keep parents well informed of school happenings on a weekly basis. The afterschool programs are run by the neighboring rec center. The shool is extremely enviromently oriented.I knew this school was run well the first time i went inside for the tour.

I have two boys who attended this school. Both enjoyed it tremendously. It is a very nurturing school, where the children feel safe and cared for, and ready to learn. My younger son has autism, and they did a wonderful job adapting to his needs.
