As an involved student, I have taken the time to examine the student population and how it affects the school. Truthfully, I feel as though the administration is not putting in the effort to make the school a better place, but rather, to make the school "get by". The fact of the matter is that this school has a 92% free/reduced lunch rate, and nearly every student has an urban/inner city low-income background, and sometimes, it can be difficult to handle these types of kids because they literally just don't care about anything. Not only that, there is a very large number of Karen students that demand a much more versatile ELL program compared to the joke of which is what this school encompasses right now, as it feels as though half the school does not know how to speak English. In the future, the Karen population will only continue to rise, and it is very likely that Washington Tech. will become a cultural hearth for Karen students, and the school administration needs to realize this. In any case, the current standing of Washington Tech. is a very vivid image. As a senior apart of the first graduating class, it really has only begun, but the future seems to be eerie. .
