We moved here from out of state and have gone thru Clearwater and are now at the HS. I have high academic kids who score in the 97-99% on standardized state testing. I am a involved parent and I have to say I love this school and district. No school is perfect. WHS excels at the environment. We have been happy with the teachers, the staff and the challenging classes. The music program is top notch and there aren't many schools where band is as cool if not cooler than football! This year they started a program where Wed's for an hour the kids meet with an advisor and mixed grades that will meet with the same teacher and kids for 4 years to really focus on topics to help them prepare for the future (called Ramp Up). Honestly, I can't say enough about how happy we are. I feel if your kids have a hard time here, they will probably have a hard time anywhere - probably isn't a school issue.

Absolutely terrible school. Very clicky and very snobbish. Teachers are not directed very well. The overall quality and content of the education is subpar in comparison to the surrounding communities. I highly recommend not sending your teenaged children to these schools. If you must send them to WHS, try and push your kids to take college courses at a community college after graduation. The community is ok, but overall it's not condusive to a progressive education. WHS will stunt your child's growth and potential.

We actually enrolled our several kids into this district in 1992, and while we were positively delighted with the quality of elementary education, we became disappointed with middle school and positively incensed at the near- worthlessness of the high school. From perennial scheduling problems (seriously, this isn't a new challenge folks?) to an absolute lack of educational standards, mediocre teaching, focus away from academic excellence, 70-minute classes (ridiculous), lack of options for advanced students, and generally constant poor planning, lack of foresight, and wasting of money. These kids are NOT being prepared to be achievers or leaders - they're being academically warehoused and entertained for 4 years. Many are absolutely shattered when they hit college-level anything and drop out by their 2nd year in college, frustrated and full of self-doubt. Tragic.

The school has really made a turn for the worst in recent years. Many of the more experienced teachers are good, but many of the new teachers that have been hired in the last few years are awful, and show up simply for their paychecks. It doesn't help that the school's student body, and to a certain degree, the entire community is clicky and snobby. I would have gone to Mound-Westonka if I would have known what it was like here and how poor the staff was. I would also avoid the district all together, unless you absolutely have to attend Waconia's schools. The district has declined in quality over the last 6 to 8 years.

Tell me how it's possible for a teacher to teach math without being licensed in math? This school failed me. I left in the middle of 9th grade to finish school online.

I picked this school district for its smaller size and seemingly high education standards. I was correct about its smaller size anyway. I have found the teaching staff to be very immature and small-townish. Waconia is small community trying to be big. As for athletics, the commitment to providing knowledgable and effective coaches is embarrassing. Instead, you most likely will get a teacher that may or may not have played the sport in Junior High. Except of course in marching band and glee club, there seems to be some talent there. I would recommend Chanhassen, Mound or Orono over this district. Also, the foreign language is an absolute joke. Many students have 1st trimester language, then 2nd Trimester it's not available, so then they have to take it third trimester.

This is an amazing school with tough classes and very good teachers, Academic, Athletics and Musical Arts are all very good. Waconia has some type of activity for everyone. Other students are really nice and Waconia always has a big student section for every sport!

I do not enjoy it at this school. There are waaay too many students and they are very rude.I dislike that it is not smaller and you cannot be friends with everyone.Very clique. The school is also too small to fit all of the students. They are also waaay too agressive and rude and competitive when it comes to sports.I hate it here.

my daughter has excelled at waconia both academically and socially. her classes are challenging and she likes all of her teachers. she is also involved with the marching band and the program is excellent and she has a lot of fun even with all of the hard work they put in.

After decades of hiring from the 'good ole boys network' Waconia is starting to realize that qualified, motivated teachers make a huge difference. WHS is not strong college prep school, they do not take midterms or finals! athletics, choir, marching band are wonderful...but for challenging academics this is not the spot.
