Moreland Elementary School5

Moreland has BY FAR exceeded my expectations as a great school. It rates as 1/10 but I do not agree. Teachers are patient, nurturing and kind. They invite and encourage family participation in the educational process. They collaborate with MIA and the Children's Theater educational programs. My daughter is reading at a 2nd grade level in first grade. She gets positive feedback from her teachers and they encourage her leadership. She has grown both in character and academically in arts, science, reading and math. The teachers make us feel welcome and appreciated. Moreland also utilizes Dodge Nature Center to teach farm education and science. Lastly and most importantly to our family is the astounding diversity of many cultures and the celebration of each cultural background. I think living in a global society, it important that we embrace each other's gifts and cultures and Moreland does an astounding job at this. I highly recommend this school. Because Moreland focuses on community ownership and building individual child's strengths through arts based education, I believe this model is innovative and deserves at least an 8/10.
QUESTION: What is Moreland Elementary's Plan for emergency? They have none. There is NO security and the doors are kept unlocked. I pick up my child and the teachers do not even look to see who the child is going with. I could have a restraining order. What is your plan??? None until it is too late?
Our son is attending the preschool. Having a Masters degree from one of the best degree programs in the world, I wasn't sure if the Preschool would meet or exceed my expectations. It has exceeded. My son loves it! He's very proud of the different 'jobs' he is given each day (feeding Bubbles the fish, giving a weather report, being line leader). He's learning the alphabet and reading, too! They do a lot of creative work - one thing that another preschool he had attended did not have - and is excelling now in drawing within the lines and trying to write more of his letters and numbers. It's an inner-suburb school, so it has a lot of diversity. That's the only reason I can think of that makes their test scores lower. I am very impressed and would recommend the preschool to any parent.
