Southside Elementary has a principle and teachers that are totally committed to the academic education and safety of their students. They are very creative in educating the children in ways to make learning fun and interesting. The school building is extremely clean, well cared for, and safe. The principal knows each student by name, and personality, and treats them as his own. They are very disciplined with the students which accounts for the low incidence of behavior problems. Southside is also the only elementary school in Picayune that accepts children with disabilities. The teachers are very skilled with educating these special students and Southside should be commended for it. Southside Upper and Lower Elementary Schools both remind me of small academic minded private schools. I am very proud and happy that my child was educated there from k-6th grade.
I have been extremely pleased with this school. The teachers are even involved with the children's after-school activities. My son is testing 3 to 4 grade levels higher than he should be and I can't say enough great things about South Side!
This school has been a great disappointment. My 5th grader needed tutoring from the start of the year in math.Programs were not available.Request were made continuously.Even when title one was available his teacher failed to get him help. There is a no child left behind rule in the school but, what they fail to tell parents is this only applys if you don't upset the teacher who holds your childs fate of passing or failing in the palm of his hands. However,in the mist of this fog there is a bright light.Mrs.Robinson my sons science teacher has gone above and beyond the call. She opened my 5th graders eyes to the wonderful world of science. He bloomed and his excitement and confidence helped him to win first place in his division of the science fair.We need more teachers like her.
This is a very fine school. The teachers are very nice. The school could use a little more parental involvement.
