We just loved this school, it was like a family!! I was always as a parent informed on my daughters progress. We have now moved to another state, which is known for great schools and my daughter is so far ahead, it is ridiculous. I have no idea what the other bad scores are about, but I am not a native Mississippian and I never felt like it was good ol boy network. for those that complained about the money???? Are you kidding me? It's a private school!! Yes, they need to make money to keep the tuition low. Go check out S.B.E.C in Southaven and see how much they charge. twice as much!! This is a school we miss and loved!
This is an overall great school to attend. Safe enviroment and caring teachers. The 2011 class of 49 all received scholarships with over 3 million in scholarships offered to this class. This is far ahead of any other school in the area. If you wish for your child to attend college this is where your child should be. Of course there are issues at any school or business (which other reviewers point out) but if you want your children to succeed in college this is a great school to attend. The ACT scores were also excellent for the class of 2011.
I did not have a good experience with this school. Our children spent two years here, however, they ultimately enrolled in the local public school and are very happy with this move.
Be careful if you have a child with any special needs or you are not from the area!! Magnolia Heights was made aware of my sons previous school history and special needs and they enrolled him in a program called Parellel Program with an additional fee. The program is overseen by the Principal and Administrator and taught by the Principal's daughter. It sounded GREAT, but my son rarely went to the program and was charged regardless!! This is a GOOD OLE BOY school ran by the local Good Ole Boys. Over priced for any child that needs any special needs, with little to no assistance or training for any child with special needs.
My children have attended Magnolia Heights for 10 years and it has been a very positive experience. The teaching staff is extremely dedicated and probably the best in the State of MS. Moreover, the Capital Campaign and annual gift giving program have taken this school to new heights. My children are very proud of their school and I am very proud of my children's continued accomplishments. The headmaster is articulate, motivated and focused on preparing our children for college and beyond. I would recommend this school to anyone looking for private school education in the Senatobia and surrounding areas.
This is our first year at Magnolia Heights, and it has been truly a BLESSING! We LOVE it! It has been a wonderful move for my children!
We love the Chiefs!! My girls have been at Magnolia for 6 years now and have loved every minute. The kindergarden program is top notch with three fabulous teachers!! I would like to see the 5K go to full day, but other than that I can't say enough about how prepared my daughther was for 'big' school. I love, love, love the teachers and administration at the school and have served several years with the parents board. Not everything is perfect but what school truly is. I would like to see more fine arts and foreign language eduaction incorportated into the curriculum and the school is working on that. I think MHS is a great value for the money. Camplaints about the capital capiagn and fundraising are crazy...without that no school could survive. Go Chiefs!!
We have only been at magnolia heights since this year(08) there are so many good things I could say about the school. MHS was a blessing for my children. The school has their priorities in order meaning they are there for the children in every way. They know and believe that every child learns differently and its their job to teach and not just medicate. I believe if you check their test scores are high and the seniors getting scholarship is remarkable. I would recommend this school!!!
Having just graduated from MHS I can look back and say that the school well prepared me for my future education. I found the High School principal Coach Patterson to be very understanding as well as fair with all students. The disicipline at the school was well maintained but I didnot like the uniform policy.
I went there for a year and counted down the days until i got out. The students are not friendly and neither are most of the teachers. All you really talk about is hunting and fishing in class. The only good thing abou the school is the food, which was really fattening.
If you want skate-by academics and full bore athletics, this is the school for you.My oldest attended Magnolia from 4K through high school graduation. Despite his straight A performance at MHS he was woefully unprepared for college level course work. The school puts no emphasis on basic skills such as writing anything more involved than a simple paragraph. If you visit their Wikipedia article, you will find more than 50% of the page devoted to athletics with almost no mention of academic performance. The headmaster, Marvin Lishman, is very responsive to parents as long as (1) the check is on time, (2) your child is an athlete, and (3) you don't ask questions about SACS recommendations. There are essentially no provisions for art, drama, or chorus in the upper grades. Other than a half-hearted attempt in the 1970's and 80's there has never been any attempt at a band program.
We have been very pleased with the school since our daughter started in the 4k. They have high expectations for academics and behavior. The school has a strong Christian setting. There is always pray before any event and devotion every morning. The headmaster is very effective concerning respect to the teachers and other students. We would recommend this school.
Academic programs are decent and compare well with the local city school although there are fewer resources at MHS. If you are into sports you will love this school since that is really the only activity that gets the administration and parents excited. Parental involvement is given lip service and while there is a large amount of involvement, the administration seems to have their favorites. The school would simply prefer that you donate money instead of time. They now have a single vendor uniform policy.
I really like the math the school offers. The program is advanced from the start and the teachers do a great job. My son has been there since 3rd grade and is now in the 7th. Great environment and parent involvement.
Great school. Very good learning environment. Most impressed with level of discipline, Christian and patriotic emphasis.
