Our experience at Liggett has been nothing but positive. Our daughter has made great progress in the year that she has been there and we look forward to the progress she will continue to make during her time there. The teachers are all very caring and truly love the children they work with. The speech pathologists and occupational therapitst eork very hard to see progress with thir students. The administration takes an active roll in knowing the students and caring for them and their progress. There are usually one to two paras in the room to help anywhere from 4 to 10 kids. They are very dedicated to thier eork with the kids and I have never seen anything to make me think otherwise. As for a the parent being upset about not being able to walk directy into thier child's classroom but having to stop a check in the office- this is for the safety of all of the children as well as your safety. If schools just let any adult walk in with out being checked in, our children would constantly be in danger. If there was an eamergency such as a tornado hitting the building, you would want search and rescuer teams to be able to know that you were in the building to help you.
It's sad that the teachers seem to do wrong when it comes to the kids who can't defend themself or speak out, It's not right that i have to go through the office if i want to go and see my child and they say you can do a suprise check on them, when really you can't they will inform the teacher you are coming they just wait till your out of the office and it's hard to believe they have a set schedule when they change there diapers so at 930am your child is not dirty and at 1015 they are dirty the child has to wait till 12-or 1pm to get changed only when the teacher can get to them even though there is 3-4 aides in the class room, It is just a sad situation, staff don't believe the parent they believe the teacher only because the child can't tell them what happened and they know this that the kids can't speak up.
I was very pleased with my four year old childs progress when he went to Special Services. He went there not being able to talk and throughout the school year we found a dramatic improvement on his speech. We are very pleased. We also like how the parents are involoved with everything their child does at school. My child also made some great friends and really loved his teacher. I wish they offered these schools where we are at now, but they don't and that's a disappointment. Overall I would say that Special Special services is a great school that cares about not only the student but the parents views and ideas too.
