Camdenton Schools are very large and K-5th buildings are all in the same location, like a campus. My daughter has attended for two years now. I have to say the sports are great and fun to go to! They have lots of $ it seems to provide extra incentives for children etc...parties and school supplies. Academics not so much and advancement classes. If you are a fan of a very large public school and very political, then this is the one for you! Eleven Kindg. classes, yes eleven! That is way too large and too crowded, my opionion. Kids get overwhelmed by this. Parking is a big issue and traffic and the lack of monitoring. I am a big fan of the smaller intimate schools and you know what your surroundings are of parents and children.
I have a child at Dogwood and one at Hawthorn and am very impressed with the school district. They have done a great job with my children so far. There is so much offered to the children of this school district. It is really a great place to go to school.
At times I have been frustrated by Dogwood. It is a very big school and I don't always agree with the school's policies, ie the focus on Map testing. That said, I do feel the school overall does a wonderful job helping every student learn. My daughter had trouble reading and with the special help she received is reading like a pro now. The teachers are all caring and involved and the music teacher Mrs. Green is just fabulous, as are the art teachers. This is a big deal because my niece attends a school that doesn't even offer these classes. I also like that the kids get two recess times to run off energy. Overall we have had many good experiences at Dogwood over the past several years that my children have gone there.
My son has attended the schools IEP since he was 3 years old. I counldn't rave enough about what help all the teaching staff has been for his progress. He is in kindergarten now and has a wonderful teacher. I wouldn't want him to go anywhere else.
Dogwood has great careing Teachers. They go out of there was to make sure all your childs needs are meat. I would never place my child in any other school but Dogwood
My Son attended Dogwood 3rd Grade last year. His teacher was so wonderful. He has some special needs at times and the staff are attentive ansd well involved with the overall progress of the child. He is moving on to another school into the district this year. I'm so happy he was able to experience part of grade school in such a caring environment. Melissa Allen Great school and PTO Rocks.
As a parent of 7 with 3 in school at Dogwood I will tell you this much, it is the greatest school around. I can't image my children going any where else. The have the best teachers, staff and volunteers and they are all very friendly and helpful. I have one son who is in the gifted program and another who is ADHD and requiries special assistants and each one of these children are giving the best that the school has to offer in order to make sure they are well taken care of. They have the best football team in the state ' Camdenton Lakers'. The teachers and staff are very appreciative to all the volunteers, so if you can get in there and help out with anything they will greatly appreciate it. I have already had 1 graduate from Camdenton and look forward to seeing the other 6.
