Our son was born profoundly deaf, which we didn't know until he was almost three. He started at St. Josephs just before he turned three. He didn't even know to look to the human face for information. Now he is fully main-streamed at fourteen, with his peers, in public school, and getting mostly As and Bs. He wants to be a computer programmer and is teaching himself HTML. He is oral, doesn't know any sign language, is social and loves listening to his MP3 player. Thank God for St. Joseph's Institute for the Deaf!

We have two deaf children. Although there are plenty of deaf schools in the United States - there are very few that teach deaf children how to speak. There are even fewer of these schools that will accept children over the age of six. In fact - St. Joseph is the ONLY one. The progress that our children have made since we moved here is nothing short of - remarkable. Friends in other states that knew our children before we moved to Missouri have literally wept after seeing what two years of a proper oral-deaf education has accomplished.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
