The teachers and the staff there are dedicated to the students in every way. They encourage and support the students and go out of their way to make themselves available to help the students and to meet with students and parents.
I have two boys that attend Oakland and our experience has been great! The administration and teachers are excellent. I have some concerns with the academics since classroom sizes and behavior problems in some classes. Most teachers are young and often try to be 'buddies' instead of teachers and have been told by my sons that often 'minor' curse words have been said by teachers in class! I am a very involved parent in the Family Partnership and this is what is important in children's lives: active and loving parents! I wish more improvements could be made building wise for Oakland! The building is somewhat old and can been seen in most places!
At Oakland, there are great teachers that realy care about your student. Many of them are just like school counclers and are able to connect with the students. Many students feel they can talk to these teachers about anything, a great help in keeping Oakland a wonderfull place to learn. This school seems to pride itsself in it's tremendous amount of school spirit and the promotion accademics coming first . The sports programs are wonderfull. Football, basketball, vollyball, track, and cheerleading are all offered. There are many other before and after school clubs and activities including the National Junior Honors Society, as well as science, math, and drug prevention based clubs. Before and after school help is provided for students who need it. Oakland prides itself on it's commitment to excelence. Oakland is also proud to say that is's principal was named Outstanding Middle School Teacher of the Year!
