As a new teacher at this school, I would have to state that this school is a community. Dr. Lewis brings education to the levels of the students and holds them responsible for their actions. There are improvements that could be made, but parent involvement would be the best medicine for this school. I am a proud Griffith Dragon!
This school is attentive, caring and responsive to the needs of the students. I have a child that needs IEP. She has improved tremendously over the last 3 years. Very pleased with her progress and the performance of the school.
As an Independent Arts Consultant, I could tell that this was a super positive school. I received a lot of smiles, eagerness, and positive feedback from the children and teachers in an after school arts workshop that I facilitated. It was some years ago, but I could tell that the audience and entire faculty environment was very receptive to the arts enrichment exercises that I taught!
Love the support of the teachers. Mr. Danes has a positive attitude. My sons think he is a COOL guy.
Parents need to be involved more at this school. There is a problem with discipline . The uncontrollable students are taking learning time away from others. The teachers are excellent but a new disciplinary system needs to be established.
This is a great school with a positive energy! The kids love to learn and the teachers are very motivated and creative. The principal is never in her office because she is in the halls and classrooms interacting with the students. She is dedicated and dynamic. This is a school that is truly trying to make a difference in the lives of its students.
There is real room for improvement at this school. The school has an authoritarian feel to it. The school has a positive behavior system in place, but it fails to recognize positive behaviors in students. Griffith is very MAP driven and little 'student driven.' Students all read books on the same level and take the same spelling tests as well, which is no beneficial to a diverse group of students. I feel like that I never know what is going on in the school. I would like to get involved in the PTO, but I often do not know when the meeting is. I usually get the PTO notice letter the day of the meeting.
There is room for improvement. There is lack of parent involvement, and teacher commitment in certain grades. My child was not turning in homework, and I do weekly progress checks on my child. I was not told until report cards came out. I asked the teacher beforehand and was not given any information. I feel the only material being taught to the students is what is required by MAP testing. I have had problems with the PTO fundraiser, where my money was taken but no merchandise was given. The principal did not return my phone calls, and I had to corner her at her office. She was hardly ever in her office. There is a new principal, now. Since I have graduated, I have seen changes occur not for the best. Hopefully, there will be positive changes for the children.
