Jana Elementary School

Jana used to be a great school. I have had children there since 1996 and let me tell you it has gone down hill.I've been through 3 principles, countless teachers and let me just say that every year is worst than the last. This is my last year to have kids there and I could not be more excited to be done with this school. I actually have a countdown for how many days I have left. The new princple has ran it into the ground. As long as she is there, there is no hope for the school to turn around. It's sad to see a school that used to be one of the best in the district turn out to be one of the worst.

this school's principal made this school from a 5 star school to a 1 star school. they teach the kids that you have to compeit to win their attention, witch makes kids try to stand out but when they do, the school punishes them for the teachers bad judgement so all i have to say is that you'd be better of home schooling your child then exposing them to unsatisfactory behavior. sorry jana, it's the truth!

This school is a terrific place for children to get there education. My daughter has learned alot.

Jana is a fantastic school. I was a very active on the PTA and we begged for parent help with very little response. That would be the one thing that could better this school. Parents need to stop complaining and start getting involved!

I have two children that attend Jana for the past 6 years. Very disappointed with the school. Not a warm environment. Teachers most of the times don't speak. The children tell you that they are being treated unfairly. I think parents should be able to visit the classroom at anytime or the playground as well. They make you feel uncomfortable about being a parent helper. And you are not aloud on the playground to watch your child. I did join the PTA for two years, until I found that they just wanted the fee and not the parent involvement. There is very little parent involvement in the school on a daily basis or even just PTA meeting .

I am very disapointed with Jana and have been for 5 years. The teachers seem to resent parent involvement with our children's education. I never receive word back when I have sent notes or phone calls. The focus on the MAP test is horrible. They have taken spelling and handwriting out of the curriculum because the MAP does not require correct spelling. That is a district wide policy. They have made handwriting a like skill grade. My daughter is in the 4th grade and she cannot write in cursive! The kids only have to write their names in cursive. I have a gifted child who gets no challenge at all. He was getting higher level reading, but that was stopped. I asked for help but was told by teacher that she didn't know how to teach him. I don't have space to go into the bullying problemthat is being allowed.

My son started Kindergarten there this year 2005 and I am so far very impressed. He's starting to sound out words in Kindergarten! WOW. The teacher has such a no nonsense philosophy for teaching and my son is completely responding to it.

I have been impressed with Jana Elementary. The principal, counselors, teachers and other staff are very responsive to the needs of my child and he seems to be learning a significant amount of information about a variety of topics.

Jana is pretty good. They taught my son how to read, but I am not sure if they concentrate on writing enough. I would like to see more worksheets and homework (never thought I would say that..lol!) But, there is definatly alot of parent involvement. The playground is nice for the kids, too. Two big complaints I have are the major traffic jams that happen before and after school and the slim choice of daycares that pick up and drop off at Jana. Other than that it is nice.
