I unfortunately have to concur with the previous posts. My son came from an academically challenging school and he has not learned anything new since 2nd grade. The rigor of the curriculum is just not there. Mediocrity is. While I believe the principal wishes the culture of the school to be different, the fact is that the current culture does not allow for differences in thoughts, activities, and opinions of others. The majority of the children are not friendly and welcoming. The principal may be trying to turn things around, but my child will be in private school by then. We just can't take it anymore.
I would have to agree with the other post. My son has been at this school for two years and I am not sure that he is being challenged to tap into his potential. He also get good grades (honor roll) but I am still unsure that he is getting all that he needs. Also, unhappy about zero field trips and behavior of other children in his class (and school as a whole). He will not be attending Kirby next year, I have decided to send him to private school rater than him going to another poor performing school.
My dauthter has been at this school for 2 years and she has not learned anything new since her 4 years at private school. I am not pleased with zero field trips and minimum extra cirr activities. I am not happy with her going to Kirby in the sixth grade. Wonder why all other elementary schools have k-6 except Townsend and one other school in the Kirby Jr. high area. My daughter gets good grades but I wonder if she has learned anything significant. Don't like the fact that she does not get enough homework. She had homework in every subject in K-3 at private school. i.e. write spelling works and definition and sentence to prepare for a spelling test. In this school the homework consisted of studying spelling words.
