ODs is the best kept secret in the Northland. It take a special place to create life long learners who love to go to school. We have an amazing amount of family participartion and it's a rare place where all of the teachers know your child as they walk down the hallways. It is not necessary to have a gifted program in our school because most of our children become gifted because of the wonderful teachers.
Good, personalized education for each student, regardless of level.
Oakhill has carried its excellence in education in early childhood and elementary into middle school. Oakhill's excellent middle school faculty and inspired program are a civilized oasis from public middle school. The students are bright, well mannered, and really seem to care about each other. What a wonderful program!
Oakhill Day School works at each child's pace. For example, if one 3rd grader has mastered the Math curriculum, they move on to the 4th grade Math book. They have small class sizes and a fabulous Science lab where the students go every day. They are also dedicated to conserving energy and protecting the environment. They serve organic food from local farmers, compost in the cafeteria, garden, use reusable milk cups instead of cartons...... It is an incredible place!
Our children have attended over 9 years and they have not only excelled academically but have the emotional IQ to be strong individuals and good citizens. Each child is inspired to learn. From Kindergarten on up there may be 3 or more math groups per class so each child moves at their own pace and not the pace of the entire class so that by 6th grade kids are doing math at 7th grade level to algebra! Public speaking, reading music, learning Spanish, and a totally organic lunch menu make Oakhill stand out among area private and public schools. Why settle for Intro to Keyboarding in 6th grade when Oakhill students have already mastered Power Point by 5th grade? They have a great chess club after school for Kindergarten and up. Check this school out and you won't regret it.
Oakhill Day School was rated best private school in the Northland 3 yrs in a row. It's an outstanding atmosphere with great test results and the kids love it! Parents are encouraged to get involved and the board is always open about what is going on.
My child(ren) is/are at Oakhill and the education is top rate. The schools ITBS scores are the highest in the city and this is why we are there. On the downside, you have to put up with the political crap that goes on. The Board of Trustees is very secretive about everything that goes on. The less you know the better off you are at this school. Put your blinders on and help the teachers out when needed and don't deal with the Board at all is the best policy around there.
My daughter started school as an Early Learner (age 2)and continued to the 2nd grade. The teachers encourages communication with the parents. This is a great school to for the children's early years.
When we moved to Kansas City, we searched for a school first and then decided where to live. When we visited Oakhill, we were absolutely blown away. We initially were planning to live in Kansas, because of their high test scores and academic reputation. However, we found Oakhill's academics to be second to none. Oakhill ITBS test scores are in the top 1% in all grade levels. The environment at the school is very comfortable and relaxed. Amazingly, our children have very little homework. They work hard at school and are able to relax and have fun at home. The families, staff and teachers are very involved and care about the students and one another. At Oakhill, we feel like we're closer to home. We couldn't be happier!
I was very skeptical of 'private school education' as I was public school educated. The class sizes are outstanding, and the teachers are very professional and able to individualize instruction to meet each child where he/she is and move them way beyond. Classes in Art, PE, music, Spanish, and computers are standard. Parents are heavily involved -- which makes for an outstanding school. Teachers say they come there because of the parental support they get and the freedom to deviate from a standard curriculum if the students' interest warrents it. There are many enrichment activities to choose from for after school from choir to sports to art to chess. Oakhill is a great place -- my daughter can't wait to get to school every day!
