Having attended schools in Missouri, Washington State, and Idaho I must say Greenfield was the worst. Drug use is rampant: when I was 13 I was made fun of for not smoking. If you are not from the area, it's very hard to get your foot in the door. Teachers are often incorrect, play favorites, and teach useless and trivial material. Extra curricular activities are almost nonexistent and once you pay the fees to be in a club, you don't really do anything. I see that a few people thought Greenfield was exceptional but I can't imagine why; perhaps they don't know what a functional school system is supposed to be like.
Wow, sour grapes or what? I have had three children attend here, with two of them graduating from the high school before we moved. The two graduates both achieved honors in athletics as well as academics. Both received acadamic scholarships in college and now have masters degrees. You are what you make it. If you are a negative person, you most likely will fail where ever you go. This shool has some great teachers, good adminstrators, and a good school board whom all care for their students. Most failures here are because of their parents. Good community. A little too rural for some, with I admit, little diversity. But Springfield is not far for more culture, with Stockton Lake almost next door for outside activity. You will like it.
I attended GHS for 13 years. Overall, there are a few gems in the teaching staff, crowded by multitudes of duds. The sports program is highly supported and highly overrated. The other programs ( Music, FCCLA, FBLA, etc.) are wonderful and strong but in this small town rarely get the recognition they deserve. The drug problem is continuing to grow and get out of hand- many students, athletes included, abuse substances of some kind. Discipline depends largely on which last name you have and if you are valuable to the sports programs. The town itself is small and close-knit. The parents are very involved, which is good, but once again, many seem to turn blind eyes to certain activities. Average students will benefit best from this school- accelerated or challenged students will hurt from this school's mediocre instruction.
This school is excelent in many ways. Sports #1 here. We are best in district. Everyone here participates in at least 1 sport. The teachers are nice, funny, and accually give you knowledge. They tell you things that aren't in the book. My 7th grade teacher, Mr. Burton does just that. He is well-taught and he teaches very well. He tells us things that... well you don't hear very often. This is a school that if you do not want to go to a big school, but want a little school fascinated with sports. This is the perfect school for you.
I have attended GHS since kindergarten. I'm a junior and I've got to say that I really love it and wouldn't want to go anywhere else. 9/10 teachers truly care about our well-being and grades. We have a wonderful counselor who is way cool and helps us out with scholarships, ACT stuff, and is the best Stu-Co advisor I've ever had. I do agree that sports are a big deal, but in all seriousness, where isn't it a big deal? It keeps us out of trouble best it can and teaches us responsibility, respect, discipline, and gives us confidence. We also have very strong drama and art departments. If a GHS graduate isn't making it, I would honestly have to say it is his/her fault. GHS is one of the best schools in the area.
I have attended Greenfield Schools all my life as well, however I must admit that I do not have as much faith in our school as I should have. To me, having so much emphasis on the athletics aspect of a school isn't desirable. There are many teachers who truly care about the students, then there are many teachers who are there for a paycheck, and I also think our school has a bad habit of losing the most worthwhile teachers. While I would like to remain positive about our school, I am afraid I cannot. It is worth it to look into this school, but you need to be aware that even the best teachers are hampered by an inefficient good ol' boy school board interested only in what will give our school the most recognition- sports.
As a student who has attended Greenfield schools all my life, I must say that I think this school system is blessed with some of the most caring, and knowledgable teachers that there are. We have strong athletic and music programs and our technology is way ahead of any in our area. The only downside to our school is it's high drop-out rate. Past graduates of Greenfield have gone on to do many wonderful things, so graduate who says something negative about the school and the oppertunites it offers, are totally unprecidented in that assumption.
I graduated from GHS in 2002. This school offers no oppurtunities for education and they do not counsel their students on higher education. Unless your child is only interested in athletics, this is not the high school for them.
