I have 2 daughters at this school. Teachers are very good. Special Area teachers (Art, Music, PE, Computer) are outstanding. I talk to the teachers and administration regularly just to make sure there are no problems.
My child has attended Murphy for 5 years. Although I feel it has been a decent education, it could be better. I have been very disappointed with the staff. The current teacher does not communicate the problems my child was having until it was almost too late to remedy. Having 4 previous years of no discipline problems with my child, this was shocking to find out and I was also threatened by the principal that my child could be suspended even though I had no idea what had been going on. The school secretary has been very rude to me, the staff and other parents. As the first point of contact, this is unprofessional. Although we live in the district, we are considering sending our child to private school or paying for another public district.
I feel Murphy is a great school. We have been there for 3 years. The staff seems real good. I really like how my kids like art music and PE. Its great they get something out of them especially in PE where they seem to be always active. Which is very important. They also love art and music too. But overall I give Murphy a good rating.
Murphy Elementary does not get the reconition it desires. I have two daughters that attend this school and I couldn't be more than pleased with this school. My first grader was way behind in reading when starting 1st grade. With attending the CUBS class after school and going to Reading Resource everyday, her reading levels are where she should be, and even a little higher. My other daughter, who was in 4th grade, came from a private school in the beginning of October. She was really struggling in Math. After finishing out this year, her report card was all A's, with a B+ in Math and her Reading level 1 1/2 years ahead of where she should be. Her teacher was outstanding!! Hats off to both teachers at Murphy who educated my daughters. Northwest School District does not get the credit it desires.
