I've had children in the ISD for 20 years. I never had any trouble at Sycamore Hills, Bridger or Truman. We moved, and still I didn't have many issues at Fairmount, or at Van Horn. However, at Nowlin, staff members have hit my child, with no consequences, the administration doesn't seem to believe in returning calls or being available to their parents and students. The teachers are great. They have no problem communicating with parents, or returning emails and calls. It makes me really wish the staff could teach the administration how it should operate. Oh, if you are looking to enroll your child in this school, pack their lunches. The administration withholds cafeteria condiments from the children. I'm still waiting on someone to return my messages that I left in early October. Its December now. How can they expect parents and students to work with them, when they show so little respect to students and parents?
I love Nowlin, but it clearly struggles next to Pioneer Ridge, Bingham, and Bridger. I've substituted at all 4. The students at Nowlin are a rougher crowd and a few of the teachers have thrown up their hands. I'm not saying the school is bad, it's not. You can get a good education here, but if your student struggles at all, they could get lost in the crowd. Parents of students here may have to step up and advocate for their kids more than at other schools. On the plus side, it's smaller, so establishing personal relationships with teachers and students is more manageable. The administration is good, so get them on your side early.
