My daughter is in love with this school. She is leaving for middle school next year, but she has very few bad memories from friends, but that's all. I, just me would say that Mrs. Lorimer, a 5th grade teacher is the best home room teacher for my child. Columbia has a very good amount of kids that are willing to work.

Columbia is a school with very dedicated staff and an excellent principal. Mrs. Musser is no doubt the best principal in the Joplin school district. Columbia has a very active parent group that will welcome anyone who wants to participate.

Columbia Elementary is an overall good school. Ms. Durr is the best teacher my child has ever had. She was genuinely caring and helpful and very encouraging and patient without being a pushover. All the kids respected her. She is a fourth grade teacher. There are not too many extracarricular opportunities available through the school. Most sports, etc. are available through the YMCA or the Boys and Girls Club. I am not sure how involved the parents are, but on the parent/teacher nights, the school was always crowded. The school seems crowded with some classrooms being located in 'trailers' on the school grounds and a few located in the halls surrounded by particians. I have been assured that Columbia is one of the best elementary schools in Joplin and they were highly awarded for excellence in MAP testing scores. I believe that for a small town, this school is a great one.
