Last year our school was recognized for not only making AYP, but being a school of distinction. Please check your facts before posting them on this site.

This school has not met AYP (adequate yearly progress) for two years in a row. I, as well, have a highly above average student that after being tested, reads at a college level in 5th grade. The school was/is not responsible for her high level. I am a very proactive involved parent and have worked with my child and see the effects each year of having an exceptional student. Some teachers think the child who gets done with their work quickly, knows the lesson after it is first introduced, is a 'know it all' or is graded more harshly than other students. The very much needed gifted program for these kind of children was abolished due to an 'inability' , so the superintendent stated, to find a replacement. I would bet my last dollar that if the FOOTBALL coach resigned, there would most certainly be a new coach for the team!!

The Marionville school district is not that bad. My child is currently ending his first grade year and reads at the 5th grade level and easily does math at th 3rd grade level. I was concerned that the teachers would not be able to keep him challenged but that was not the case. I kept in contact with his teacher all year and did things at home with my child such as read and introduced new math problems to him and made learning fun. Parents have to have involvment with their children at home, you can't expect to send them to school and have them exceed without parent involvement. These teachers have 20 + children to teach, and yes the main focus is on the ones who don't do so well. This is why you as a parent must get involved with them and work with them at home.

My child was in elementary school last year and she learned more at home than at school, there was no challenges or rewards for excellence. She is a quick learner and had met her goals early in the year and the teacher had her draw and color instead of challenging her to do more.

Our family moved out of this district and found our son was behind 3 grade levels in math! He quickly caught up with reading, but his struggles with math affected all of his grades. They had some wonderful teachers and some that should not be allowed to teach unsupervised. For every good teacher our son had, he had one bad teacher.

Too much A.R. (accelerated reading) program and not enough math. As much as I agree that reading is very important to a child, I also feel that math is equally as important. There is not much after school tutoring and help for students who struggle in math as one of my children has for the past few years.
