I have rarely found a school that is as concerned for the kids. Not just concern for their education but for the child. I have had my kids in some 'good' schools that lied , abused my kids, and pulled trick they could to get them into special ed programs they did not need. The teachers work with the parents and keep us informed of any problems. The kids are close knit and seem to welcome new students. The staff makes you feel welcome and answers any questions you have. It's refreshing to have kids eager to go to school and LIKE IT. I am glad to have my kids in this school and there is school pride here.
The teachers are great. The administration is a joke. They are dishonest ,horrible, mean power hungry people, and none of the administration or teachers for that matter bring thier kids to this school. If it were a good school with alot to offer, teachers and administration would bring thier own kids to the school, with the exception of one teacher noone brings thier kids here. NO school pride, and not much to be proud of .
This schhol is a mess. The teachers try to do a good job, but the administration is a complete joke. None of them live in the district and all have kids that go to schools in other districts. If they thought the school was a good school they would have their own kids in Union Star not other districts.
We moved from a rural area in nebraska to union star. We are very impressed with the teachers and the principals at this school. They communicate well to let us know if our child is falling behind and it makes it easier for our children to ask them for help. It is amazing to see how involved they get in our childrens lives. We are also pleased with the secretaries in both elementary and high school they are polite and will answer any question and if they dont know it, they will find it out for us. The only complaint that we have is the way to get information without bothering the secretaries. We do wish they would work on their website, maybe make it a class?. So they can update daily on whats going on and put in the curriculum so we can see what they offer for classes.
Union Star is a very close community that has an excellent faculty and staff in the school. I graduated from there and look forward to my kids going there.
I feel education wise this is an excellent school. What is wrong with teaching kids responsibility at school because most of them do not get it at home. This School has received a Distinction award for the last 3 years. I feel it is an excellent school.
The school i believe needs to have alot more leadership. They need to learn how to have respect the the students that went or go to the school. They dont offer what you need in high school to get into a college you would like too get into. Most of the teachers are respectable to students aslong as they have respect back. Some of the students there are rude and dont really care about their grades because they know they will be past with failing grades. This school is a mess they need help with organization, time management, getting more students involved wtih sports, andd over all they juss need more students.
I do not think this school has education first on their list. I think they are too focused on teaching life's lessons. They have students passing with failing grades, yet seem more concerned with nonsense like this-- 1. the punishments for a student who forgets his/her lunch card have included Saturday hours & being allowed only peanut butter sandwiches for lunch.(is being responsible for an unnecessary card more important than a child getting a hot meal?) 2. If you hand money to the secretary without it being in an envelope, she won't take it! I have no problem with encouraging the students to be responsible for their cards or suggesting money be in an envelope. However, it is not necessary. The administration needs to get their priorities in order and focus on education. If I had the money & time I would switch schools.
A great school. The other person that shared there views is one that probably never took part in the child's life as a student. A great school, great teachers, in a great community.
Totally unacceptable school. Lacks leadership, total lack of interest in any accelerated learning programs for higher achievers, poor teacher accessibilty and poor communication lines between parents and teachers. Teachers seem to teach at the lowest level, to the slowest learners. Even though the student to teacher ratio is low, the teachers claim to have no time to give extra help to students. Most of the students lack sensitivity and class, as do the teachers. We were much happier after leaving this school for a larger one that offered more.
