For the time being, this is the only high school in Bozeman. My child's experience has been okay - not bad, yet there has been nothing there that makes me feel as a parent that any of the staff really wants to go the extra mile to push the students toward excellence. It has been an "average" experience from this parent's perspective.
We loved Bozeman High and were so sad to leave. My son had an amazing time while attending. The education is top notch and the athletics are wonderful as well. My son did not encounter any bullying. However, I have heard repeatedly that Bridger Alternative kids have a hard time. It would be best for them to move the two schools to different campuses. All in all, we love the school and the community involvement is amazing! Go Hawks!!
This school, Bozeman high, was the worst experience I've ever had throughout my school years. I'm going to be a Junior this year, & just moved out of State because I can not stand the kids & uncaring teachers in Bozeman High. Bullying goes on in every nook & cranny in that school. The teachers don't do anything about it. Bozeman high school kids would bully the bridger alternative program kids. I had 4 of my 8 classes in Bridger. They are wonderful people, wonderful teachers, & all around perfect. Bozeman is a messed up school system. I guarantee that your kids will have at least 2 or more bad experiences in just one of year of high school. I hated that school down to the last day of sophomore year.
My children are not native Montanas and the were bullied and degraded. The school & district would do nothing because it is concidered an exceptable taching mthod here. One teacher warned us before classes started and tried to help but I ended up pulling my children out and sending them to another state to make sure they actually got a diploma. I've dealt with 5 school districts across the country. Bozeman ranks 2 in academics, 1 in music, 2 in sports and 0 in niceness.
I attented Bozeman Senior High Scoop as a foreign exchange student in 1987-.1988 and had a great time there. I wish my kids could go to same kind of school
This IS the school you want your kids in.. They are down right fabulous! Especially if your child has some health issues. They really go the extra mile!
Average. That's about all I can say. It wasn't bad, but classes were too easy for me and I was often bored. There wasn't enough there to challenge me and most classes were too large to get any individual attention. There are many great teachers, but the school as a whole needs some work.
The academics at BHS are outstanding. The music program is the best in the state. There is plenty of opportunity to participate in extracirricular activities and the staff is excellent. The physical plant is undergoing a renovation which should improve the school situation immensely.
I think it's a great school. The teachers are great and they know what they are doing. I can't wait for the renovations in the next couple years
There are lots of sports but it is difficult to play varsity or make it to varsity because of the competition being the only high school in the city of Bozeman. there are lots of extra curricular activities to become involved in. Our principal is amazing and really puts forth a lot of effort in making sure our school is safe for students and what needs to get done, is getting done. Music and art programs are very successful in the state and national levels. Not that there is much choice in choosing a school in Bozeman but there is a lot going on at this school and something
As a current student at bozeman high, I have enjoyed the experience and have found areas to work in that almost every student finds. This isn't just for the academic or athletic, as there are so many classes and activities that anyone can find something. These classes range from computers to art to music to sports to language. It is a large school, yes, but it is being improved. The teachers are second to none, and even though one person talks about low rates of SAT and higher learning, we are always encouraged to do more and go on in life. Our counselors are awesome and are always there for us. The entire community is extremely supportive of the school. Overall it is a wonderful place that almost all students enjoy.
Great school if your kid is athletic or in music. Tough school if your kids is anywhere in the middle. Way too many kids packed into this school, hard to get individual attention. Wonderful teachers, but overwhelmed by the number of students.
School has very high acheivement scores compared to CA schools. The difference is that MT schools work hard to include all students. It is not a 'turn out only the best and the h--- with the rest' type of school. The teachers are excellent as is the adminisration. Overall, I would rank this school very high in all areas.
These are some of the single best public schools you will ever find. Students rank quite high on national and state tests and the courses are quite diverse. We have some of the most remarkable teachers. These people are good at what they do and do it because they enjoy it (they have to for the low amount they are paid). The student counselors are very impressive. I've never seen better. Very good schools, very nice community.
This is a great school with many opportunities. From the first day I walked in as a freshman, I felt welcomed and supported. There is a vast array of clubs for anyone and everyone. The teachers and staff in general are very interesyed in your progress and strive to keep this school a positive learning environment. The other students are very curteous and are wiling to assist anyone in need. Bozeman High provides a safe, fun, and innovative high school life, while still providing teens with the space and freedom that they need. I truly would not want to be in any other school!
Rating a school for me is about results: Typically, less than 50% of BHS graduates go on to college - less than 35% earn 4 year degrees. Less than 50% of the students take SAT exams - only the best students are encouraged to take such key benchmark tests. 27% of 10th graders are reading below grade level this year. Only 16% of BHS students ever take an AP classes. We have crowded classrooms and not enough teachers. The 2002-2003 BHS graduation rate was ~86% per state NCLB data. If it wasn't for Bozeman's soft grading policies - the community would be sounding the alarm bells for an overhaul and fast. A's and B's and a diploma from BHS are NOT a meaningful achievement! If you want to be prepared for College level academics, BHS is not the school for you. Big changes are needed - but not on the way.
The school is old and is still in great condition for its age. It has been proposed that there should be another high school built to accomodate for the large number of students that are enrolled in the school. I am a Freshman there and the school is large, but it needs more classrooms. As with all the teachers in MT, they are some of the most lowly paid teachers out there, although they still produce ratings that always rank very high on scores. It is in a great community that always has somthing going on, and with enough people that there is always someone nice. The city's population is around 35,000 people.
