Unfortunately my children have been enrolled at Deer Park and to say that this school is disappointing is putting it nicely. The lack of leadership starts at the top of the chain with the current principal who is more of someone to fill a seat , and run the basketball and track program which are the only sport activites they offer, rather than lead the school in any type of solid direction. The teachers and school are still set in the teaching styles and practices of forty years ago without any want or need to change including the lack of an actual library, music program and did I mention that the Spanish class they teach is on a video with a teacher who doesn't speak Spanish?! Although class sizes are still considered small do not be fooled in order for any extra help to be given children must still be "diagnosed" with a learning disability or there is nothing they will do. Deer Park lives by the principle that the same routine is a safe routine and progress is to progressive:-(
Deer Park is a small school with great teachers and parental involvement, they participate in all activities of the school. I have had 2 children through this school, my mom works volunteer here and we love everyone there. The school is academically sound and expect kids to learn in a fun structured environment.
