I too went to this school, and while there are a lot of teachers that attended TFS and returned to teach that's not necessarily a bad thing. There are cliques, but I would say it is more so with sports- particularly basketball. Even with that said, when I wanted to try golf the coach expanded himself for me to do so, even lending me a set of clubs. While I can't personally compare to other schools in the area I guarantee it is a lot better school overall than any Colorado school. And while I can't speak for the elementary portion, if you're displeased you may find it gets better in middle and high school. My graduating class had 12 valedictorians with GPA's 4.0 to 4.12. Also, it seems all the staff really to try to take the time and get to know each student.
One of the 5th grade teachers for the 2010-2011 is the WORST, Clint Williams is the type of teacher that is in it for the summers off, period. I would caution parents to not allow their child to be in his class. It is unfortunate that our daughter had to endure him, even after we took her out of his class, as he teaches Social Studies to all 5th graders. He does not assign or correct any homework and does not seem to care if the students learn or not. Up until this point we have been very happy with the teachers in 3 Forks Elementary, if they re- hire this joker, I would be very disappointed and possibly look at changing schools for my upcoming 5th grader...
regrettably we had to move. My kids were getting good grades but were totally bored. The elementary is staffed way to much with people who attended school there got their degree and now teach there (I concur with the other comment on the cliques among the staff). There is also a sense of only doing the bare minimum to get by (there are a few good teachers but they don't make up for the rest. The move by the way was the best thing we could have done. I will say that the high school and middle school have a new principle that seems to be doing a better job.
I went to this school and can tell you that I learned, as I attended the public school in Manhattan afterward, that this school is political, cliquish and totally geared toward the children of parents who grew up in the town of Three Forks (sometimes, going back generations!) Enrolling your children in TFE or TFHS is a decision that should be strongly weighed against small town gossip and politics. On the other hand, children who attend the Manhattan schools seem to, in my experience and opinion, go along with a much more balanced and realistic outlook. Sorry I couldn't give this school a better review but my conscience won't allow it.
The principal know all the kids by name. He is very involved! TFE has had my kids for the last 4 years. This school really pushes the kids to excel in everything, especially reading. The principal has rewards he does with the kids! Check this school out you won't regret it.
