This school has bullying problems, there are teachers who care but there are others who don't help, even the deans at the school they honestly don't investigate the situation correctly. When a student has a personal problem against another student they go to the deans, but how could they feel protected if those are "trusted adults," asking the student's peers who aren't and should not get involved about that situation? This school also has a lot of clique's... but no school is perfect, it could be a better place if they tried and turned it around.
Bellevue East was a wonderful surprise! My daughter wanted to attend Bellevue West because that's where all of her friends were assigned. Alexis was placed on the waiting list and was disappointed when she did not get to attend B. West. However, within just a few short weeks she had met a new group of friends, joined Marching Band and the Theater Program and adjusted to the teachers. She is very content at Bell East and when told she had been granted a spot a Bell West, she turned down the opportunity. I think both Bellevue East and West High are wonderful schools and my daughter is happy with her choice to stay at East!
Two children have graduated from Bellevue East. They now offer more dual enrollment and AP classes. Most recent child graduated with 31 college credits - 31!! Teachers were alwyas willing to work with me as a parrent - you get what you as a parrent put into it. Facilites are some of the best in Omaha area.
the Bellevue East Chieftain Band is absolutley fantastic! Truly the only reason i go to the football games are to watch the band perform. And i have noticed many others do that to, the only come to see the band and then leave.
I am currently a student at Bellevue East, and I love it there. There are so many great aspects to being a Chieftain, I doubt I can mention them all. Let me start off by saying the teachers are top-notch. I have had the most amazing teachers who really care about their students and have gone the extra mile to help us out. The extracurriculars at this school are fantastic. The music department is top-notch in all they do, wether it be marching band taking first place throughout compition season, or East High Singers singing with the Omaha Symphony each year. The drama department is also fabulous, and puts together fantastic shows each year. No matter what activity you chose to participate in, you will become like family. This is a GREAT school for everyone :)
Surprising! I am amazed at the comments I have read on here. My child is a 10th grader and in advanced classes. The teachers really like to challenge the students and are preparing them for University expectations. The band is amazing! They took 1st place in the state and have consistanly taken 1st in the competitions they have been in. Besides, how often do you see the crowd at a football game stay in their seats at halftime to watch the band perform and not go to the snack stand or bathroom?
This will be my third year at Bellevue East and I absolutely love it. The teachers are all very friendly and I haven't experienced one that doesn't honestly care about the students and teaching. I have found every class i've taken to be helpful in the SAT/ACT tests, and am disappointed by the people giving this school bad reviews, especially former Chieftains. There are many ways to get involved in sports and clubs. At Bellevue East we have school pride, and everyone can find a place somewhere here.
This school is average at best. The teachers are absolutely nothing special. I rarely get a report card without errors. They dont respond to emails the administration does nothing to correct incompetent teachers even when advised about it. My kid hardly ever has homework but gets the highest marks in advanced classes. As she has all the way through Bellevue schools with almost no homework. ridiculous. At least they are offering more advanced and honors classes now. I keep my kid there because she wants to be with her friends not for educational purposes.
This is a tough one. First of all the music department seems to be ok, but I wish there were opportunities to be in band without being required to be in 'marching' band. It's too much of a committment with the early mornings and all. The theatre department has gone way down hill in the last couple of years. They no longer do a fall show that involves the whole school, only classroom participation and the special things in sound, light, props, special effects and even the ACTING has suffered with the new teacher. Classes are for underachievers and they need to have a driver's education program during the course of the day, not so costly after hours. I like the new principal and activities director and many of the teachers are fantastic.
I'm continually disappointed by this school. As a good student, I find the curriculum and expectations in the classroom to be sub par. Teachers can't enforce rules, the staff is rude in the office, and frankly, their athletic and music departments are so far behind the nearby rivals that it's sad. I just can't stand this school, and wish that my parents would let me transfer to Bellevue West, which is about a mile more from my house. With location not being a concern, and a higher quality at Bellevue West, I don't know why anyone would attend this school. Try Bryan, Bellevue West, or Gross Catholic.
This School is great. It is around a military base so it has a wide variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Alot of the teachers are either retired military, national guard or military spouses. This helps instill good work ethic and a sense of responsibility to ones self. All in all it is a great place to learn.
All 3 of my children graduated from here. They all received an excellent education and all are excelling in college & work.
As a current student at bellevue east, I have no complaints about it. The teachers I have all care about their students, and are always there if you need help. Although our football team is always critizied, people need to realize there is more to this school that just its football team. The music department at this school is exceptional. I've found there are many oppotunities to get involved. I would definetly recemmend this school.
I can say the following regarding my days at BEHS: I was an honors student having graduated in the top 6% but was ill prepared for college - high school was so easy for me that I never learned to study, and I look back on high school quite fondly. My main purpose in writing, I have a 17 year old graduating from Millard West High School and little has changed over time and distance. Parents often only know what the see and what they are told but they are fools if they think the 'bad element' doesn't exist even in the best schools. Talk to your kids and help them make good choices and then you can focus less on picking the 'great' school and more on picking the 'right' school for your teenager.
Although we live in Bellevue, our school district is Omaha. I opted my oldest son into Bellevue in 2004. The academics seem to be good-my son gets good grades and seems to be doing fine. However, I believe that the athletic department has a long way to go to be desired. Hopefully the new Athletic Director can bring this department up to a better level. All kids should get a fair shake. Coaches should pay attention to all the players, at practices as well as the games. This way, all students will have equal opportunity to excel, according to their abilities. Overall, I would recommend this school to others, unless the student has a desire for sports. Hopefully, I will be able to rate this school better next year (due to a new athletic director).
As a former student of Bellevue East I have no complaints. The teachers are excellent, they really care about their students and make sure that they succeed in every way possible. It offers a number of different extra curricular activities. You just have to look to find something you are interested in. I hope to send my children to East, when I have kids that is. There is no real difference between East and West, they are both excellent schools.
I have found that no matter what class it is: the advanced or not, my brothers have been pushed to excel, which strengthens their chances of going on to college, and possibly on a scholarship! The extra time and effort expressed my not only the teachers but coaches as well. The coaches follow their student/athletes to ensure that is in fact what they are - students first! I could rave all day about the positive things that Bellevue East offers, but experience it for yourself, it is worth it.
Do not be misled by anyone saying that bellevue east or bellevue west high schools. They are equally good schools. Teacher quality is at an all time best, but Parent involvment could be better though. As for safety and disipline, my 2nd month of school, I was late to class five times and got a detention. And if you are late five more times, it only gradually gets worse. I don't know what you think, but it's pretty ridiculous.
As a graduate of Bellevue East I can honestly say the school has been through a lot of changes. With the addition of Dan Larson, the school has had wonderful improvements. With new leadership came new teachers, opportunities and a new look. The four years I spent in the chieftain halls changed who I was. I attended Omaha Public schools before moving to Bellevue and I am glad my parents decided to make the change. The teachers were great and made even the 'boring' subjects fun. I still have wonderful relationships with some of the teachers and all of my friends. I spent most of my time in the Theatre. We put on a lot of great shows and it gave us an outlet to relax and enjoy our years at East. Sure, Bellevue East has its 'sore spots' but what high school doesn't?! I loved my years as Chieftain!
I have a friend that goes to this school and from what he told me its horrible. Like for example a couple weeks ago the had a protest about jeans. I mean come on. Kids should be aloud to wear what they want (just not revealing cloths and shirts that advertise). Teachers should just pay attention to there schooling and not what they wear. I think the kids should be going to the West High. Not the East.
