I'm a student at Kearney High and I transferred from a smaller school in which the level of arts was not very high. At Kearney the arts department is absolutely amazing and I can't imagine my life without it!

I also am a recent graduate of KHS and have nothing bad to say about it. I was involved with the track and cross country teams, both of which are the best programs in Nebraska history. I was also involved with Future Business Leaders of America, just a few of the extracurricular activities provided. KHS has great administrators that work hard to make the learning environment safe and productive. I never had a bad experience while I was attending KHS and couldn't have received a better education.

Great extracurricular activities. Awesome performing arts programs...Top notch band program. Supportive administration & enthusiastic teachers for the most part. High achieving school. Could use more parent involvment.

KHS is a great school for learning opportunities & extra curricular activities...however, I can't say that the teacher quality is up to par. It's rare to find a teacher today who sees teaching as their calling in life vs. a 'job'. Parent involvement is very high and encouraged. The music and art departments are excellent. The High School administration right now is probably the best we've ever seen.

I am a recent graduate of KHS, and I was very pleased with my experience at the school. I was involved in the tennis and debate teams, both of which had exceptional leadership and greatly aided my development. The academic offerings, though slightly less than what some of the more affluent schools in the state offered, were also of very high quality. Some students completed the highest levels of curriculum offered, and the guidance office helped to connect these students with faculty at the local college, UNK, to help continue their learning. Both the opportunities available as well as the actual experience at KHS are superb.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Nebraska used the Nebraska State Accountability (NeSA) assessments to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 11 in reading and math; in grades 4, 8 and 11 in writing; and in grades 5, 8 and 11 in science. The NeSA assessments are standards-based tests, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Nebraska. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the test.
