I attended MLC&have nothing but respect for the teachers and administration of this school. I was skeptical about switching from Millard West to the learning center because of the social stigma, but the care all of the teachers showed me outweighed any concerns about that. Every adult that interacted with me on a daily basis showed true concern for my life, and an incredible amount of respect which made it difficult to not respect them in return. I think the small community of this alternative school encourages student's accountability and encourages good-natured relationships with authority figures, whereas at other millard schools you may fall through the cracks, or be judged. Every teacher at that school has an interesting story&none of them are interested in judging you for whatever mistakes you made to land you there as a student.
The teachers and staff are excellent! They really care about their students... My son has been very happy at this school. The staff knows how to work with kids that have special needs!
Our son looked different than most of the students at Millard South high school; consequently he became a target - not of the other children, rather it was the staff who singled him out. He agreed to continue attending school until he turned 16, so we moved him to MLC. The environment was completely the opposite. They didn't care that his hair was red, green or blue (yes it has been all of those colors). They cared about him enough to not pressure him, gave him time to cool off, and in turn they earned his respect. Were it not for this school, I have no doubt that he would have dropped out. He graduated with flying colors and starts college next week - his choice. Thanks to the staff and personnel, you deserve a huge round of applause.
