We are possibly going to be moving from McPherson, KS to Council Bluffs, IA. I was wondering what is the best school district in the area. Outside of Council Bluffs is okay. I have a son with a reading disability and just want to make sure whatever school we choose will fit his needs so he can gain strength in reading. Please Help

Hi. I also have a son with reading disabilities, but I'm not from IA. Have you tried using the "Find a School" feature on the green menu bar near the top of this page? You can enter a location and grade level, and see a list of all schools in a given area. Public schools are rated from 1 (low) to 10 (high) based on how their students performed on recent statewide testing. Unfortunately, none of that will really tell you about special education programs. Our local school was "Blue Ribbon award winning" yet they didn't recognize my son's issues for many years, even though we knew there was a problem. My advice is to contact a local family support group, such as a chapter of www.interdys.org (for dyslexia) and see if some of those parents can advise you on the best school districts and other resources in the community you plan to move to.
