Foothill is probably the very best school in the Clark County School District for minority and special needs kids. Teaching quality and experience is better than most and my experience has put me on the path to college. They have a bunch of programs that give you both high school AND college credit!!! (Mr. V is the BEST@!)
I have two daughters going to foothill hs. One has done very well 3.5 GPA. My other daughter has issues and can't stay on task and tends to get into trouble. After getting into trouble they don't give her the benefit of the doubt, one teacher everytime my daughter went to class she made her go to the office and wouldn't even let her attend class. Now with the cuts she has to take classes she has already taken and passed because they say they have no other classes for her to take. My son will be coming up soon into High School and as of right now he won't be going to Foothill because at least 3 of the teachers are rude and just don't care.
The Band program IS the reputation of Foothill High school. It is amazing, I have learned so much through Mr. Pardee and Mr. Waters
The sports prgrams at Foothill are consistently good to great. The coaching staff is very experienced from what I can tell and they always produce winning seasons. My daughter was on the volleyball team and learned great teamwork there. The football games are a great way to spend a Friday night with halftime entertainment. I am just really impressed with them all for taking their time to spend with our children when they could probably be wroking somewhere else for more.
I have a response to the person that wrote their remarks on 11/10/07. I feel bad for that family. My four kids all graduated from Foothill & they always received the help we ask for. Most of the teachers are great there & all of the teachers we dealt with really cared about our kids. I totally disagree about the band director having an ego problem. PROUD NOT EGO! Our son was in the Marching Band & Indoor Drumline for 4 years since 2006. Mr. Pardee & Mr. Waters are the most caring Director we have ever met. They care more about our kids than themselves. FHS band under the direction of Pardee & Waters have grown to 200 band kids this years! Last year we had around 35 Pit Crew & Family Volunteers! We had a BLAST! and trust me they are all very well educated! BEST BAND PROGRAM AROUND!!!
this school is a great school to want your kids to go to the teachers care about your grades other teachers at other schools wouldn't give you the time of the day about your grades because they feel like you should stay on top which is true but your kids would need someone that is going to give them that push and show them that they do have someone that wants them to be successful and thats what this school does
The school as a whole is really good and safe, however, you need to stay on top of your child's records because they tend to make mistakes and the mistakes are very difficult if not impossible to fix (unexcused absences as an example that are actually excused).
Best school ever!!! I am in the band and love the band, the band director, and all the administrators. I would never want to go to any other school.
This school is the worst that my child had attended because they judge people by there color. My kid is a great student but the teachers don't treat other people the same. So I had to change my kid to another school.
I have a daughter in her senior year at Foothill. For a school that has over 2200 students I have never felt that she is 'lost in the system'. I have found all the teachers and counselors take a very active interest regarding her education and getting her prepared for college. I feel she has been well prepared for her next academic step.
This school leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Son went all 4 years and graduated without help from staff or teachers. Band director is ego driven and more worried about his awards than helping kids grow. Teachers don't care, don't answer emails from parents!Parents in volunteer positions are closed minded and uneducated (band parents esp)if we had it to do over, I would have taken my son out! Beautiful campus...what a shame.
I have a child at Foothill I think that its a good school, he has done better here than any other school he has attended in clark county.
Foothill has a great staff and the counselors are very receptive to input from parents. The student population is more diverse which leads to a more rounded student body. My son attends and is really enjoying it. We moved from a more affluent area of town to here and he is hanging around a much better crowd of kids.
I graduated from foothill H.S., the school is great. The teachers there really care and the extracurricular are great. The classes are not that big and its in a good area. You have all the options open to you at foothill.
We moved from a rural community back east to LV, and the schools choice was important. Foothill became the choice because it is smaller (2000 students versus 4000 students at rival schools), it is in a decent established community, and test scores were good. They also had a great selection of electives. We also have a special needs student and once we got past the first few weeks, all has seem to fallen into place. The teachers do care and are easy to communicate with via email or phone. Our special needs teacher couldn't be any better and has helped our child tremendously with the adjustment to the new school. Foothill students has been very accepting of our son too which is rare for a student with a disability at other schools he attended. This is a great place if you want your kids in a good high school.
I'm not a parent, but I do attend Foothill, and I think it's good school. I don't think the classes are too big and compared to the other schools in our area, Foothill is relatively small. I'm an honor student and I've never been mocked or made fun of. There are plenty of clubs and activities to get involved with , but the school focuses more on sports when it comes to extracurriculars. I don't notice a problem with security (if there is one)when I'm there. I don't feel like I'm in danger or anything, and the teachers make themselves very avalible, so you can almost always talk to them if there's ever a problem. Overall, Foothill is a realy good school.
Foothill is over-crowded and some of the students get lost in the shuffle.
The school is too big and the class sizes are way too big even in honors classes. Academically inclined students are mocked. Considering that the economy of this entire area is based on gambling and 'entertainment' this school is not bad for the area. Las Vegas area is really not a good place to raise kids.
Foothill is the best school ever. The security is getting tightier the teachers are nice and you really learn a lot. I love foothill and its a great school.
