We love CHS! My son is a sophmore and not very outgoing, but loves the school. He takes forensics (debate) and plays lacrosse. He takes the honors and AP classes and likes the instructors very much. Have not heard of any significant problems, not a clique school. Great all around HS. Thank you to the faculty and staff for a great job.
Coronado is the best school in the valley for education and saftey. It is located in a wealthy part of the valley and there is no gang violence and hardly and fights at that school. The asthetic programs at that school are far below Silverado and Green Valley's but that is the only bad mark.
I graduated from Coronado in 2005 and my little brother (zoned for G.V. originally) started there this year. It is definitely one of the top with great programs, teachers, and environment. the Valley and I would recommend it to anyone.
This school was great. My daughter transferred here from a private school in the valley and did wonderful. The teachers were great faculty and especially the sports program. The volleyball program and the coach really helped my daughter with many aspects she still uses in real life today.
Coronado High School is the best high school in Las Vegas. They have awesome academic programs, extracurricular activities, and teachers and faculty that always want to help. All of the departments are way above par when it comes to your childs education. No child is left behind and if a child falls behind the teachers will spend the extra time after school, before school, or even during their lunch to help if the child just asks. All in all Coronado High School is where your child will get the best education, oppurtunites, and help for the future.
I am not pleased with Coronado High at all. They are unaware of how their students are doing. The administration is not insinc with their students. Counslers and teachers need to be more on top of students that are falling behind before it is to late. Every child deserves encouragement and the belief that they too can succeed. Either the school has to many students or not enough teachers or counslers that really care about how these children will become fully educated to survive after high school. 'Students not left behind' is a joke. The administration and teachers will continue a student on to the next grade even though they have not passed their classes. Then when it comes time to graduate they tell them they dont have enough credits. Instead these children should be given encouragement and other resourses on how to improve where they are weak.
This school has a fantastic Theatre department, this has to be one of the best. The Theatre teacher Mrs.Burrows, is well educated and a great educator. In clark county there is non-better.
Excellent science, photography, english, math, history teachers. French teacher is very good. Excellent principal - Mr. Bay - has just received Nevada Principal of the Year, which is well deserved. He is very active in his school and accessible.
Excellent school. Our son arrived from a prestigious private school, and has found the class work comparable (especially the honors and AP) and he is more than adequately challenged. While a new school, the principal has great aspirations, which reflects in the quality of this school.
Coronado puts on a great face, but, the discipline is very weak, and drugs are a very seriously overlooked problem.
My children have been in the Clark County SD for over 16 years. This school is remarkably well run by Mr.Bay (principal). Student involvement is almost unbelievable. If I have one negative issue it would be a poor phone call return rate, both from teachers and administrators. If my son says he stayed late to do extra work, and I call the teacher for verification, it may be up to a week before I get a return call. Even if I have a call for the administration, counselors and such, if you get a return call, it's always at least a day or more later, even if it's a crucial question, such as a funeral/makeup work. Other than that, the students appear to love the school and the senior administration seems to truthfully want the kids to be involved and happy. Considering the teacher/student ratio, I feel the school excels at student/staff interaction. It's simply the parent/staff interaction that is lacking. A wonderful asset is the person who answers all calls, Randy. She is such a welcoming 'first impression' for any school. I will end with this: I travel 30 miles to work each day rather than have my child change from this school.
