Great school. Love their athletic department and teachers. My boys found a real family of friends at Liberty, grades improved, and they love school.
My family relocated to the Henderson area in December 2010. My son began attending Liberty in January of 2011. I have never seen such lack of professionalism, communication, and blatant rudeness from staff. Whatever you do, do not send you kid to this school. They do not address race issues when they are brought to their attention and the teachers lie to cover their backs. If you call to speak to the dean or the principal about issues, they refuse to talk to you or never return you call. This school is a complete joke. Believe me, save yourself the headache.
We chose Liberty for my daughter's high school when considering buying our home. Factors which made our decision: 1) Excellent performing arts programs. Ms. Sharon Chadwick is phenomenal in this field, and encourages her students to excel in all aspects of their education and lives. 2) Classical studies program. If you want the best college prepatory opportunities in the state of Nevada, the AP and Honor classes will help students into even Ivy League schools. 3) Dress code-not a bad idea. It promotes a more focused culture and is a student safety tool. Overall-this is turning into a very positive, nuturing, and worthwhile educational facility for my daughter! Kudos to the staff, administration, and others in dealing with a shrinking budget in their educational opportunities for our students! The only issue is the overall need for more parental involvement and support in school activites.
do not like the school what so ever. the uniforms are a pain because its very hard to find a good solid red white or blue shirt. the admin is horrible with no structure and the students have no motivation when there is no funding and only 60% are passing proficencys i left the school and sent my daughter over to coranodo after the first year good desision
Electives are very limited; no computer classes, no CAD classes. Administration is the worst I have encountered. I overheard the principal berating employees more than once.
This school has low standards, though there are many teachers and students that have potential, the administration and the ideas and chances presented are for the worst. I find that this school is concentrated on athletics, i participate in the orchestra here in LHS, and we have yet to see any incentives to join. Yet athletics continues to receive constant sponsorship and support. I would love to see improvement in my remaining 3 years in this school (hopefully less).
Not only am I a parent, but I also work for the Clark County School District as an educator. When I first heard about plans for Liberty when it was being built, I was so excited as there was no school like it here in Nevada. Growing up elsewhere, I felt that the schools here were missing key elements that other states had to offer. I moved so that my children could attend Liberty and am pleased to say it was one of the best decisions that I ever made. The curriculum that Liberty offered and still does is wonderful. We have been at Liberty since its second year. The teachers, administrators, courses, etc. are by far exceptional. This is a wonderful school and any student having the opportunity to attend is very lucky.
Best kept secret in CCSD. Classical Studies program is one of a kind, theatre and fine arts programs are higly rated. Academically, AP and honors programs are at the level of area schools or above. Media programs among the best in the country. This school does more with less resources (funding, students) than any school in district.
It's an awesome school.. and the dance team is amazing! The other sports.. not so good. But it really is a great school with great teachers. I didn't see the red, white, and blue uniforms as i problem, I just got used to it. And I love the block scheduling too!
My son is in Theatre and absolutely loves it. He is zoned for a new high school being built in Southern Highlands and hopes he can get a zone variance so he can stay at this school. Only have heard positive comments about this school from my son.
Many of the students are rude (but that's anywhere). You can get a decent education there though. The art department and core classes are great, but the odd schedule and red, white, and blue uniforms are a bummer.
