My child just completed her first year at Frank Kim. Her third grade teacher was wonderful. He understood her academic needs and challenged her to exceed beyond expectation. The school is student centered. The staff is wonderful and the school is always clean, welcoming, and open for parental participation.

I initially set out to send my child to private school, hoping to isolate her from all the negativity I hear about the Nevada public school system. In Kindergarten I sent her a half day to private and a half day to public. Much to my surprise I found that she was learning to read quicker at Frank Kim. She also preferred her teacher at Frank Kim. As I met parents with older children attending Frank Kim they shared that had lived elsewhere in the valley, but noticed a huge difference in their children's education at the other schools, and it was much less. They were all trying to relocate or get their kids zone variances back to Frank Kim ES! There are high expectations for parent involvement, homework, and participation. we are supposed to do that as parents! It's not up to the school/teachers to do it all.

I love Frank Kim, I asked for a zone variance in order for my child to continue going there. The teachers will meet with you if you asked to talk to them. I always felt I could ask questions to the staff. When I went through my divorce they had counseling available for my son. My youngest one was struggling with speech and the teachers where more than helpful with his development growth and guiding me on what programs would work for him. They have reading nights, and pick nick days so you can joined your son/daughter for lunch and have a chance to participate in their school life. The only suggestion I would give is maybe more sports activities but overall my 2 sons love the school thank you to the hard working teachers.

We spent 6 years at Frank Kim. The motto is Kindness, Integrity and Motivation. Although the students live up to the motto, their current principal lacks all of these character qualities. As a parent, you will need to be actively involved at every step of the way - both academically and morally.

About the tests

In 2010-2011 Nevada used the Criterion Referenced Test (CRT) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in reading and math, and in grades 5 and 8 in science and writing. The CRT is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Nevada. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.
