College of So. NV High School West

Excellent school! CSN High School-West is a great school for those kids that want a more challenging education. My son graduated in 2010 with 36 college credits. Didn't get the Assoc Degree but a great start to college at the University of Nevada in Reno. This program works great for those kids that are more mature and just want a higher academic challenge. If your kid is not responsible and lacks the maturity it takes to interact with college students than this high school is not for them. The high school teachers were wonderful and the counselor, Mr. Wellman, is by far the best. My son's counselor at NWCTA dropped the ball and therefore I had to pay for my son to take a Health class online that cost me $150.00. It was Mr. Wellman who caught it on his transcripts. Your kid has got to be motivated and up to the challenge. The only thing I had to pay for were the books for his college classes. Well worth it!! Be aware that if your child does not pass the college courses, you will have to reimburst the college. No transportation available but well worth the effort and sacrifice to attend this high school.

Both my son and daughter graduated from CCHS, one in 2004 and the other in 2007. My daughter, last to graduate, had seen two students graduate with her brother that completed their AA degree while in high school and she said that was what she wanted to do. Three years later she graduated one month before her high school graduation with her AA degree. She was determined and focused and took as many as 12 college credits in addition to her high school classes. She is now attending NAU as a junior. This also saved her parents alot of money! Hi highly reccommend this program for your high school students that need a challenge that they won't get in a regular high school. Even if your student does not get an AA, whatever credits they do earn will give them a head start on their college.

This school is great if the student who attends is responsible enough. It's a wonderful opportunity, but your 16 year old will be thrown in 'with the wolves' in the actual college courses they will take. If you're child is responsible, and able to attend classes even WITHOUT an attendance policy in place and where you won't know until grades come in if they even went or not (college doesn't have attendance policies) then this is definitly a great choice for you. It's fun, independent, and encourages the student's to act and strive for a level that no other high school would ever give. If you're child is responsible, then this is the BEST place for them!

I am an alumni to this school for graduating class of 2004. It was the best high school experience I could have asked for. Although the school only offers the basic academic classes, students are given the opportunity to take college classes through Community College of Southern Nevada. Clark County school district pays for the tuition of the college classes.
