This school is one of the worst places to put your kid. I attended this school 6th and 7th grade only about 4 years ago and i was stabbed, jumped, numerous of times. The disciplinary act for this actions is not severe at all and kids are getting away with this typer of behavior. I want to post this review to tell all who think about attending this school SHOULD DEFINITELY NOT ATTEND and think of a better public school to go to. The magnet program just brings kids in early and then mixes them with kids who live around the area who don't quite set a great examples. I've had many great friends who have changed dramatically because of this school and i beg all of the parents to pull or not attend this school.
My school is very strict and there are lots of bullies and fightings. The area is very bad and there are lots of cars upon the streets and only about 2 police guiding around.
Nevada's education system was just recently ranked 50th in the U.S yet Cashman has brought in a new vice principle who has a mind set that the teachers can do no wrong even when the teachers are clearly at fault, and feels that it is the student that need to be held acountable. A good portion of the magnet staff at Cashman are far from professional and the students pay the price. I was told by other parents not to try and inrole my son in the magnet program at Cashman but I did not listen, next year we will apply for the magnet program at Hyde Park ( academically a much better school ). A good school can offer the same excelerated curriculems, don't put to much stock in the term magnet program.
My son is now an 8th grader at Cashman Middle School. During the past two years, we found the teachers and principal to be kind and competent. However, the magnet program has been a disappointment. I do not feel that our son has been challenged as a student nor do I feel he has developed the study skills he will need due to the lack of homework.
I am disappointed in the school. My student attended 6th grade and furst semester if 7th grade before I removed him and entered him in K12 Virtual Acadamy. My student was a straight "A" student upon entering Cashman and remained that the first semester of 6th grade from there it went downhill. He was bullyed not only by a student but by a teacher. His team teachers were then influenced by this one teacher. He had the Dean as the only one he could go to and then he left mid year. Since he has started with K12 he is back to straight "A's" again and has completed his first semester in 8th grade Algebra and Physical Science, and the 8th grade doesn't evern start intil Aug 27,2012
My child have a 3.92 GPA average after almost 3 year at Cashman Middle School Magnet Program. In his last two years, he maintained a 4.0 GPA. You would think his academic ranking is in the top 10 in his class. Unfortunately No, He ranked 35 out of 475 students. This is an extremely competitive middle school in Las Vegas Valley. I suspect Hyde Park Middle School is similar. If you are looking for top public middle schools for your child in Clark County School District. James Cashman and Hyde Park Magnet Schools are must see.
James Cashman midle school is one of top five fastest improving middle school in Clark County School District...Its Magnet Program is superb in the state ranked almost dead last in education. Cashman Middle school is turning the tide. Thanks to its capable leadership and dedicated teachers...I know because my son is in the magnet program 3rd straight year. Is it perfect? no. However under tough buget cuts, This school is head and shoulder above most of middle schools simply because from staff to teachers, counselosr and principal, they tries harder to give your kids a good education.
I am a former Cashman Cougar and I must say, these past 3 school years have been amazing! The teachers were really nice and helpful to all of the students. They really cared about the students and wanted all of their students to do well. The magnet program is amazing! I would highly recommend it to any newcomers to Cashman. Actually, I would recommend this school to anyone! Sure, this school has its ups and downs, but what school doesn't?
Last school year 2010-2011 our son was stabbed in the head FIVE(5) TIMES in school cafeteria. Charges has been filed. The school informed us that the boy was already expelled from the school. But this year 2011-2012 we were disgusted when our son came back from school that the boy who stabbed him was re-enrolled and in fact they were classmates in one of the subjects. How frustrating as a parent. This boy was not held responsible or accountable of his actions besides he was cited by the school police.
My son stayed at James Cashman Middle School because the administraters and teachers are working hard for the education of my child and many others
A boy was stabbed with a pencil in his arm. Cashman allowed the agressor to return to school. Charges were even pressed against the child. Instead of protecting the victim, they allowed the agressor back at school. The Assistant Principal (would never go to a school with this AP) & Principal made this decision. Scary. Child safety should always be first.
Cashman Middle School's faculty ,staff and teachers work hard all year for our children! They offer extra help when needed, and care about their well being. J E Cashman, offers children a variety of after school programs. Anything from sports, homework help, and other academic programs! Thank You J E Cashman, for all your hard work and dedication to our children!
I am curently 7th grade and go here and i kind it kind of strange cause where it said this school was ranked 3 out of 10 for one of the reasons test scores. well we didnt pass the CRTs for 4 years out of 5 and teachers had to work so hard to make us pass so we wouldnt go N5 and have restructuring. well now we are on hold and havent gotten test results yet but if we fail well go N5 instead of P1 and even the principal admits that there is a chance. honestly i think that me and the other magnet students are what are going to save this school from restucturing with remedial classes.
I attended Cashman for just over one semester in seventh grade, I am currently in nineth. The students are our of control, and even the honor classes are something to be ashamed of. When I went back to my magnet school I had a lot of catching up to do because of my time at Cashman. It doesn't prepare students well for highschool.
I consider that Cashman Middle School is very praiseworthy! All pupils seem to have advanced along with the extra curricular activities are fabulous! I am very advanced in most of my classes. This school, like one parent said is not bad. That some students do not work hard doesn't mean that they are all stupid, my friends and I are actually accelerated in most subjects, so the school must be doing something right!
I believe that this year, Cashman is the 2nd worst school in the Las Vegas area. None of the kids can spell, read well or do basic math. This is my daughters 3rd year there, she is now an 8th grader. She may as well be in 4th grade with the lack of knowledge she has. I've met all her teachers, they are very nice and concerned with all the kids. Her counselor on the other hand, could really care less and makes sure she is 'too busy' to ever speak with me. And yes, they do have a very good after school programs.
I was an honor student at James Cashman Middle School throughout the school years 2002-2003, 2003-2004, 2004-2005. I believe that I did receive the best middle school education in Clark County. Extracurricular activities are supported to the greatest potential by the administration, teachers, and students. The music, art, and theatre departments are just remarkable. The teachers at Cashman are hard-working, devoted, and kind-hearted men and women. I have nothing but good things to say about James Cashman Middle School.
